Rents in Quito

I'm considering a teaching position in Quito. The school pays a
housing allowance of $300/month. I'd like to be within walking
distance of the school in the Carcelen area of the city (I think north
of the airport). Any idea how much apt. $300 would get? Ideally, I'd
like two bedrooms and a decent kitchen.

Thanks,

Maggie

$300 will get you a modest apartment. I am not familiar with that
neighborhood - but around the airport is very congested.
There is a new airport being constructed about 40 miles outside of
Quito - that should open in 2010. What school? They should
be able to put you in contact with other teachers -- who may be
leaving and you take over one of their apartments. Also, try to get an
apartment
that has a land phone line -
If you want to understand the Ecuadorian culture - may I suggest you
find a copy of my book -
Culture Shock Ecuador -- Amazon.com has it listed for a discount.
There is quite a bit of information on the culture and living in
Ecuador.
Also, I regularyl update my security report at: http://www.travelalerts.info=
