Medicines For Travel In Belize?

We will travel to Belize, and we would like recommendations for health
precautions.

We will be with a Sierra Club tour of major tourist points for most of
the time, and then snorkellilng on our own. The tour is an elderly
group, and the itinerary will be tame.

We have tetanus.

Have you suggestions for:

Typhoid?

Hepatitus A?

Malaria?

Dengue?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hep A is always a good idea, no matter where you go. Protection lasts
10 or more years. As for the others, check the CDC's traveler's
section http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/default.aspx for their
recommendations. Probably more useful than asking a bunch of
anonymous people here. The Sierra Club ought to be providing you with
recommendations as well.

Thanks, Maggie. I know anonymous writers are problem, but there is also
a lot of shared wisdom out there.

Best,

Dwight,

How far inland are you going. I am in Belize right now. I have been
told (this is my second trip) that there is little chance of getting
malaria or dengue fever. Malaria is not a problem on the islands only
deep inland. I went to Laminai last week and didn't have any
mosquitos there at all. If you are going to go scuba on Ambergris
Caye, no problem at all. I am here a month and my doctors did even
consider recommending innoculation.

The weather has been unbelievably great. Not so good for scuba
because the sea has been quite rough, but the breezes and temperature
have been heavenly.
