We have a last-minute trip to Peru. Haven't researched it. We will have a
free day in Lima. Any suggestions for how to spend it? Things to do . . .
things to avoid . . .

TIA

At first the Plaza de Armas, in the center. After that, 2 museums: the Gold
Museum (Museo de oro) and the Anthropological museum (Museo national de
antropogia).

More specifically, the San Francisco Monastery is well worth seeing, as is
the Church and Monastery of Santo Domingo. If you want to try something
more ambitious, take a collectivo out to the Pachacamac ruins.

Lima is not the prettiest place in Peru. Perpetual cloud (Rarely
rains) pollution and maniac traffic! Beaches crap, water cold!
Presidential palace (changing of goosestepping guard) is quite good.
The market is excellent but lots of thieves, don't take anything with
you that you couldn't bear to lose!
Don't go out at night on foot. Go by taxi at night, call one, don't
get one in the street. Don't get in taxi when someone else is already
in it. BE ALERT.

It's quite a safe place really taking into account the above.

Tourist police and ordinary police very helpful, don't hesitate to
ask.
Most Peruvians are excellent!
One day is not enough

woa there sorry for the language! I meant that another museum I really
enjoyed was the Enrico Poli in Miraflores. It's a small private museum that
has more things to see than many of the other ones put together. If you have
the time, go see it.

Altro piccolo museo ma incredibilmente "ricco" é l'Enrico Poli. Pieno zeppo
di statuette meravigliose, arte precolombina. Museo privato in zona
Miraflores. Vale la pena.
