We're doing it, and based on recommends from this board, so thanks everyone.
We're still deciding on a place to stay, but air was the big thing at first.
When we started looking it was 'can't get there from here', but I guess
routes open up seasonally. Now we can get there, but not back home, so
we'll spend a few nights trembling in fear in Mexico City.

Not! We have loved Mexico City for a long time, and welcome any chance to
visit, even on the pretense of a beach vacation.

Sorry, I'm still kidding. I'm writing here because I've forgotten a name
that I thought I saved. It was a guitar man who first tuned me into Zihua,
and I hope he reads this.

Thanks man, and thanks doubly. Have you been to the Zihua guitar festiva?.
It sounds great.

Keith

I haven't been to the Zihua Guitar Festival, nor even heard of it
until now?
For years, I wanted to visit Parracho, Mich. to check out the
guitars there.
This issue of "Fretboard Journal" featured a story about their, "Feria
de Guitarras". That's where the best guitars in Mexico come from.....
It's been years since I've been to Zihua. I hope you'll give a
complete report on it, when you return!
Mexico City is a world of its own! I just wish the smog wasn't so
horrible!
Be sure to have breakfast, or dinner, at "La Terraza", on the
Zocalo, so you can watch the color guard put up, or take down the
basketball court sized flag!
BTW, don't get a hotel in Ixtapa! It's nothing but a "mini Cancun"!
When are you going?
Don

We're going in November, and all that's left is to decide on a place to
stay. There are a lot of bungalow type places along the beaches and we'll
probably stay in one of those. Most are like a suite at half the price,
with a bedroom, kitchen, living area and a deck. They're not fancy, but I
usually feel uncomfortable staying in fancy places on vacation when it's not
'that' kind of vacation.

These places, we can pretty much live in our bathing suits until dinner
time, then wear a shirt and shorts on top to go out at night. We can make
our own breakfast and lunch and eat on our own deck. We're not total
hermits, though, and it sounds like there are seafood places everywhere, and
a lot of other places.

I only mentioned Ixtapa because that's half the airport name, and the easier
one to find when looking for airfares. Resort enclaves, and all-inclusives
are about as useless as cruises as far as I'm concerned. Those kinds of
places leave too much out for my taste, and try more to be all-exclusive
than all-inclusive.

Anyhow, I think the guitar festival will be long over when we go, and I only
heard about it on a Zihua-specific newsgroup. It sounded great, though,
with a lot of players mixing it up in nine or ten venues for a week. I
would love to go someday just to hear some great guitar in an atmosphere
like that, especially after a day of beachcombing or fishing.

It's you I have to thank for introducing us to Zihuatanejo. I'd honestly
never heard the name before, and it's exactly the kind of town we love best.

And we get bonus days in Mexico City! We stay at a place on Napoles in
Colonia Juarez, which is pretty convenient, yet still in a quiet
neighborhood.

Here's where I heard about the guitar fest:

Zihuatanejo is nice but I had my doubts about the water quality in the
bay. Not far from Zihua is Barra de Potosi- that really is a beautiful
place.
