the European rights to the osteoporosis medication EVISTA(R) from the

Genzyme Launches Renvela(R) in the U.S. for Dialysis Patients
Genzyme Corp. (Nasdaq: GENZ) announced the U.S. launch of the
phosphate binder Renvela(R) (sevelamer carbonate) for dialysis patients,
as well as significant progress in its international efforts to secure
additional approvals for the product. Genzyme has submitted a
marketing authorization application to the European Medicines Agency
seeking approval of Renvela for the control of serum phosphorus in
chronic kidney disease patients regardless of whether they are on
dialysis.

US District Court for the District of New Jersey ruled against the
validity of Bayer Schering Pharma's 531 patent for the company's oral
contraceptive Yasmin, the result of a patent challenge by generic

direct injection into muscle tissue, according to new research by
German and Czech scientists. In DNA vaccination, a gene from a
pathogen is injected directly into the host, which then produces the
corresponding pathogen protein inside its own cells. This triggers a
response from the host's immune system. Advantages of DNA vaccination
include the fact that the vectors can be constructed quickly, and
rapid and large scale vaccine production is much cheaper than for
traditional vaccines.
