The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) has been formally notified by
Wyeth Europa Ltd of its decision to withdraw the application for a
centralised marketing authorisation for the medicine Pristiqs
(desvenlafaxine) 50mg and 100mg prolonged release tablets.

Trial Date Set For SEROQUEL(R) Patent Litigation
AstraZeneca announced a trial date has been set for patent litigation
in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey against Teva
Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. and Sandoz, Inc. alleging infringement
of AstraZeneca's patent as a result of Teva's and Sandoz's filings of
Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs).

Femara(R) helps protect against return of breast cancer
Women may reduce the risk of their breast cancer returning by starting
treatment with Femara(R) (letrozole) anywhere from one to seven years
after finishing tamoxifen therapy, according to a new analysis

Nycomed intends to move chemical production to Indian joint venture
Nycomed and Cadila Healthcare have signed a letter agreement with the
intent to amend their existing joint venture agreement to include the
chemical production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) by the
joint venture company Zydus Nycomed in India. Based on this agreement,
Nycomed plans to transfer the current chemical production from the
sites in Linz (Austria) and Singen (Germany) to the new joint venture
within the next three to four years.

ALERT project looks to ICT for drug safety
A new EU-funded information and communication technology (ICT) project
is tackling issues of safety in newly developed drugs. Over the next
three and a half years, the ALERT ('Early detection of adverse drug
events by integrative mining of clinical records and biomedical
knowledge') project partners will work on an innovative computer
system for a better and faster detection of adverse drug reactions
(ADRs).

Circuit has upheld the two main U.S. patents covering Celebrex, the
