Well, one of the main reasons is that fungi aren't very immunogenic,
due to them lacking antigens, so B cells can't produce antibodies
against them --they can't "see" the fungi--. They also tend to produce
biofilms which protect them from cytokines produced by cytotoxic T
cells. So antifungals are needed to kill them, so the macrophages can
clear your body of them. Are you immunosupressed? This may explain why
you get so many fungal infections. Also, certain people have a genetic
susceptability to fungi; I have severe tinea pedis susceptible to
griseofulvin, however, my pediatrician --I'm 16 and enrolled in
Cerritos College; I want to be a doctor-- didn't give a long enough
course --only 30 days--, so around a week later, it came back. Then he
decided to put me on --$800/course!!!!-- itraconazole, which didn't
work at all, so he put me back on griseofulvin. But my compliance was
horrible, b/c the meds got lost in plain sight.
I suggest that you suggest to your internist that he put you on
ultramicrosize griseofulvin for 30 days. That should cure your fungal
infection.
