Re: Shorter penis after a RPTom's article refers to the effects of RP, which would seem to be caused by
the "mechanics" of the procedure.
There is another item of interest i.e. the effects of radiation and hormone
therapy on length. During several years on Zoladex after radiation I thought
that there was shrinkage, but put it down to muscle atrophy, since "it"
wasn't getting the "workout" it was before Rx. Hell, let's face it. It was
in severe multi-year dormancy. I couldn't get one of my 3 Dr.'s to agree
that shrinkage was a result of radiation/hrt. I had put on some weight, too
and that is a factor. I have heard that 35 pounds = 1 inch in penis
length........another reason to lose weight (Will it ever end?....)
After 6 years of hormone therapy I finally said "enough!" and stopped 2
years ago. Since my Stage 3 Rx in 1997, and subsequent treatment my psa has
been flat at <0.2 and hasn't risen since going off Zoladex 2 years ago.
Fortunately something else has "risen" and I have welcomed back my old
buddy, a little less responsive, possibly a little smaller, but anxious to
get back on the field of battle....currently about a 6 or 7 out of 10
compared to the "good old days")
My Oncologist has said that my situation is unique, and that even though a
Stage 3 Rx. usually is considered to be a rather permanent situation, he
went so far as to say that he would give me a 50/50 that there was now no
cancer. (Touch wood) Hope he's right!

Gerry
