Health-EU Portal Issues Multilingual Newsletter
The Health-EU Portal started issuing last week a multilingual
newsletter, which aims to better inform European citizens on what is
going on in the field of health at European and international level.
"In 2006 we launched the Public Health Portal to provide high-quality,
user-friendly information on health to citizens. Building on this, the
Health-EU newsletter will allow readers to receive the latest news and
developments on health from a range of sources across Europe in all
European languages," Health Commissioner Markos Kyprianou remarks in
the newsletter's inaugural edition.

Increasingly, micro and medical technology are growing together and
driving each other on to new developments. According to a survey by
IVAM, the Professional Association for Microtechnology (Dortmund),
medical technology is the principal target sector for European
microtechnology companies, with a clear lead on the telecommunication
and electronic industries. Over 43 percent of the companies asked
regard medical applications as the primary focus of their marketing
opportunities.

eHIT Ltd. and Japanese company AnalyzeYou Inc. have signed a co-
operation agreement which includes mobile phone based telecardiology
system's global development and maintenance. The first delivery
consists of 100 wireless mobile units to Japanese markets.

eHealth Project of the Month - CLINICIP
Thousands of patients in European intensive care units (ICUs) develop
high glucose levels that need to be treated with insulin. Many ICUs
cannot easily control the glucose level and as a result, these
patients have a much higher risk to die or to develop complications.
Within the EC funded project CLINICIP, a system that will help ICU
staff to implement glucose control has been developed. The system is
presently being clinically approved and is expected to be soon
released to the market.

Launching the Research Project GO3R to Develop a Knowledge-Based
Search Engine
Starting in August 2007 the German Federal Institute for Risk
Assessment is funding Transinsight GmbH's research project GO3R. This
project focuses on the development of a knowledge-based search engine
for alternative methods to animal experiments. Transinsight is closely
collaborating with scientists from the Centre for Documentation and
Evaluation of Alternatives to Animal Experiments (ZEBET).
