number of x-ray per radiographer

Hello everyone,

I am new to the group. My name is Nusaiba, the Head of x-ray unit and
Quality Officer in one of the government clinics in Dubai, the United
Arab Emirates. One of our main services is to issue medical fitness
certificates. We have about 1500 people visiting us every day. About
600 chest x-rays are taken every day by 5 radiographers. So each one
of them takes about 120 x-rays.

I would like to know whether this is legal and ethical and whether
there is any written protocol or rule regarding his issue. If there
isn't any documented evidence, will you give me your opinion and advice
please?

Thank you

Re: number of x-ray per radiographer

SCREENING CAN BE DONE WITH 1 FILM, BUT WE ALWAYS DO 2.

THEY'RE PROBABLY REFERRING TO THE TECHNOLOGIST TAKING 120 FILMS/DAY,
NOT THE RADIOLOGIST READING THEM.

TAKES ABOUT 1 MINUTE TO READ A NORMAL SCREENING X-RAY. TIME IS SPENT
DICTATING, PUTTING UP AND PULLING DOWN FILMS. IF ITS ON A CRT AND
THERE'S NO ACTUAL HANDLING OF FILMS, IT IS OBVIOUSLY FASTER

Hi B.

I came across this request while browsing through Radiology newsgroup.

Care to respond directly to the guy, or just scribble your opinion and
reply to me, and I'll forward it to him.

Looks to me that they are engaged in frying the population, or at
least exercising a kind of a screening. One film per patient should
indicate a screening operation.

How much time would you need to examine ONE film for, say,
Tuberculosis? probably 3 minutes?

You failed to state his "issue". Is it the Number of exams he's
performing? Is his occupational dose monitored? In the 70's we used to
do screening Chest x-rays on the underground miners in our town. Did
quite a few every day. Never seemed to have a problem with tech work
voulme or exposure.
