Re: CT scan contrast injection painThe contrast used in CT is usually a non ionic material due to the lower
risc of alergic reactions and secundary efects.
One of the things that it must be cleared is that to obtain good images, in
the arterial and venous fase in the exam that you talked about, the rate of
injection is elevated so the blood that usually runs throw the vein has the
path bloked with another liquid (the contrast) so it hurts a little bit.
This pain is related to the moment of injection only.
If the contrast material is injected in another place (under the skin but
outside the vein) you will have a bubble of contrast material for a few
days untill it is absorbed just like a BCG test.
