vibration machine -- Juvent

The article linked below was in today's Toronto Sun. I'm surprised
that there isn't more discussion of this in this group. Maybe it's
hard to find information but if this is as good as it looks, I'll buy
one. That doesn't mean I'd stop exercise, etc.

One way to fight osteoporosisMachine may well be in forefront of
treatment

Re: vibration machine -- Juvent

Hello,

There are 2 companies that make these and their marketing/pr is well
coordinated and media coverage has been increasing. They are
especially well marketed in England.

Last time I checked the studies listed on the juvenet web site, they
were animal studies - maybe that has changed in the last 2 months..

There are not many studies of these machines but of those done results
are mixed. ...and some show side effects of low back problems.

I put a summary of the major studies at:
* w w w .osteopenia3 . com /Body-vibration-Osteoporosis.html

I am trying to collect annecdotal evidence from some of my newsletter
readers who have bought the machines and will post their comments when
I get some.

The article begins by saying that the astronauts will be using it
QUOTE::
"In 2007 what will astronauts take to the space station? I'm sure we
would name the things necessary to sustain life in outer space. But I
doubt if many would know they will be packing the "Juvent 1000 Dynamic
Motion Therapy (DMT) Platform" in the space shuttle. And how many are
aware of Wolff's Law? Now, through the space research of NASA,
patients have an alternative non-drug way to fight the ravages of
osteoporosis (brittle bones)."
I suppose the question is whether they are part of the test. If so,
we may wait another two years for the results.

Re: vibration machine -- Juvent

I need someone to buy me one of these and send it to my house. In
return I'll post my osteclasts and t and z scores or anything anyone
wants to see, even my smiling face if there is any improvement.
This winter is the worst for me, I can not move without lotsa pain
and with this latest leg break while being stormed in has made me a
immobile, my arms are still busted from two years ago and the
thought of a minor fender bender if I could get a ride to the
therapy pool 36 miles away keeps me away from the warm water therapy
pool. Decipher my email address and send me one anonymously post
haste, I'll even put a web cam on it. Peer review. Double blind. My
old beagle will assist if you want an animal study.

Well, it was worth a try. Could be a tax deduction for a donor. My
intentions were honorable. For what they spend for to equip one of
our soldiers in Iraq for 15 minutes would buy a whole truckload of
these new machines.

The results were somewhat disappointing, though there was a
significant improvement in the study participants who had low body
weight.
