Does anyone have any experience with Forteo? It's been prescribed for
me and I am wary.

My wife just completed her first year on forteo and her last bone density
had increased by 10% from a year ago. She had been using Fosamax for about 4
years with hardly any improvement. You can only use Forteo for 2 years
maximum. She's going to do the Forteo for one more year and then return to
Fosamax or something similar. Her doctor said that after Forteo has created
more bone then the Fosamax has a better chance to work. Her doctor was very
excited when she showed us the results of the dexa. We are very lucky in
that our insurance covers Forteo as it costs $600 a month. We get a 3 month
supply for a copayment of only $40.00. I do the injections once a day for
the Forteo and once a week for methotrexate. She has been getting the
methotrxate for over 15 years. She is 73 and has suffered terribly with RA
for about 25 years.

My wife has had a similar experience.
She's been on forteo for about 1 1/2 years. The increase in bone
density has been dramatic. We pay a higher copay ($65 per month), but
it's lots better than the $665 per month it costs!
Only side effects are occasional sharp bone pain.
My wife self injects. The supplier sent a nurse to the house to show
her how.
After the first couple of times,
no problem!

Hi: I've been on it for a year with absolutely no problems. Most of the people
I talk to don't have any either. I haven't had a dexa to show the progress, but
I have had an NTx test showing that it is increasing bone growth. My copay is
$60.00 a month, so everyone seems to pay different prices.

It's not like a regular injection, really small needle, that I rarely feel.
Read some of the other posts here about it, and see what you think.

I have no complaints with it, and I had trouble with Actonel so I couldn't
continue with that.

Have you read the Cleveland Clinics paper on this or the one from Eli Lily?
