Re: cost of ForteoHi Marjorie: I don't know what type of insurance you have, but I'm on forteo
and they pay $587.00 and I pay $60.00. At the first of the year my insurance
raised the copay to 161.75, but I went through the process of getting a tier
change, back to the original price. What I had to do was have my dr. explain
that there is no alternate drug for forteo, and that I couldn't afford this and
also that the med is considered a medical necessity. If you need to get a drug
covered the process is the same, except it's called a drug exception instead of
a tier change. I don't know if different insurances have different names for
this process, but it usually works the same way where you need your dr to fill
out their form, fax, and ask for an expedited decision. If this doesn't work
the first time around then there is also an appeals process where you can fight
their decision.
Look in your policy for an explanation for a drug exception or call your
insurance, and see what the steps are for it, and don't give up until you get it
paid.
Good Luck...
