comminuted fracture of the right distal femurI suffered a comminuted fracture of the right distal femur about seven
weeks ago. The surgeon reduced the fracture the morning after the
injury with internal fixation using a plate and 10 screws.
I've had a few complications, first a blood clot (DVT in my right calf)
a week after the surgery. Then, a week later I developed a hematoma in
my right knee brought on by the blood thinners that were being used to
treat the DVT. The hematoma was initially mistaken for an infection.
As a result of the complications, the doctors ordered me to discontinue
CPM rehab for two or three weeks while the complications were worked
out.
Now, seven weeks down the road, I am showing some signs of healing and
my doctor has given me permission to begin to bear weight on my leg.
However, I am still suffering from a good deal of pain from time to
time and don't seem to be getting better in a serious way.
Does anyone have any experience with this as a physician or a patient?
Any insight into what I can expect? When will I be able to return to a
normal routine, drive a car? Any tips?
