R. Kelly arrives in court

"The Chicago Tribune"
Friday, May 9, 2008

It has been nearly six years in the making, but the R. Kelly trial
will be getting under way today. At least we think it will be.

The R&B superstar's defense team has asked Cook County Judge Vincent
Gaughan to postpone the trial because of recent publicity surrounding
the case. Kelly's attorneys are upset about weekend stories describing
a closed-door hearing in which Gaughan ruled a woman could testify to
having a three-way sexual encounter with Kelly and the girl shown in
the videotape at the heart of the case.

The judge, however, hinted Thursday that he plans to start jury
selection this morning. It seems he's moving forward, so we will too.

Proceedings are expected to begin around 9 a.m., with the jury pool
being brought in about 10:30 a.m. Officials have summoned 150 Cook
County residents for the case and the 12 fair-minded folks who can't
come up with a decent reason to be excused from jury duty will hold
Kelly's fate in their hands. (There will be four alternates, which is
really the worst job in the judicial system. They have to listen to
the whole trial but don't get to deliberate.)

The singer, whose real name is Robert Kelly, faces child pornography
charges stemming from a 15-minute videotape that law-enforcement
officials say was made between Jan. 1, 1998, and Nov. 1, 2000. Kelly
has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

There's intense media interest in the case, with reporters from all
over the country--as well as France and England--flying in for the
trial. In order to put Cook County's best face forward, the courthouse
has gotten a bit of a makeover. The entrance has been painted, there's
a new information desk in the lobby and the benches in Gaughan's
courtroom have been re-stained.

Kelly, 41, was in court Wednesday with his attorney and two
bodyguards. Though he's always serious and respectful while in the
courthouse, he appeared more somber than usual. He said little to his
entourage as he waited for his case to be called.

As a few spectators pointed and smiled in his direction, he furrowed
his brow and continued looking straight ahead into the well of the
courtroom.

We'll let you know when he arrives in the courthouse this morning.
With the exception of a single missed court date last December, he's
usually early and enters the building without comment.

Kelly has a special entrance, so it won't take long for him to get
inside and past security.

We'll be providing gavel-to-gavel coverage throughout the trial, so
keep checking back for updates.

Media, crowds await R. Kelly's arrival
By Azam Ahmed

There's an air of anticipation at the Cook County Criminal Courts
Building as media and spectators alike are assembled to await the
arrival of R. Kelly.

More than a dozen police officers are gathered in the area of 26th
Street and California Avenue this morning. Reporters have thronged
near the spot where Kelly is expected to enter the building, but no
one is sure exactly when he will show up.

Two men held posters stating: "R. Kelly world's greatest pedophile!"

A small group of Kelly supporters stood nearby, talking quietly among
themselves.

A Fox News helicopter hovered over the courthouse.

Still, most the people entering and leaving the courthouse have
nothing to do with the spectacle trial, concerned only with the normal
flow of violence, robbery and other crimes that are the staple of the
criminal justice system.

The defendant has arrived
9:57 AM CDT, May 9, 2008
By Kayce Ataiyero

At 9:45 a.m.--much later than anyone had anticipated--defendant R.
Kelly pulled up in front of the courthouse in a black Cadillac
Escalade.

Flanked by five bodyguards, the R&B singer, wearing a grayish blue
suit, walked quickly inside the building without a word or any
acknowledgment to screaming fans who professed their love for him.

Some spectators booed him.

After he entered the building, his supporters and detractors began
arguing with each other outside the courthouse.

Three protesters shouted, "R. Kelly is a pedophile, lock him up," a
position that enraged about 30 of the singer's supporters, who
immediately countered with, "Free R. Kelly," among other things, which
can't be printed here.

It will be thrown out permanently if they try him on those bogus
charges.

ALL the females were post puberty, and hence no longer children, but
rather adolescents. So the pedophilia charges will be thrown out.

He may be guilty of statutory rape, but apparently that is not what he
has been charged with doing.

America is a very pathological country. it's the only Nation where
people get excited and prepare for a lynching when men have sex with
adolescents who are ripe females and ready to marry and bear children
according to GOD and nature, but they pin medals on people who fly
over innocent countries, dropping thousands of tons of bombs on small
babies, toddlers, children, adolescents, adults, and seniors killing
them by the hundreds of thousands.

That type of pathological thinking has condemned Amerikkka to hells
fire!

Coming from a terrorist worshipping little prick that plays childish

The majority of the military personnel you condemn are of minority
races, so claiming White Supremicism here is bogus.

And The Law According To Knowledge seems to be: no Black person is
ever guilty of any crime.

Time for you to grow up.

What color were the people who gave the orders to rush to attack Iraq
and Afghanistan?

What color are the people who are rushing to attack Iran now?

What color is the soon to be president who has the wisdom to sit down
at the talk and talk to people with whom we have disagreements instead
of using Nation slaughter as the tool of first choice?

If it is not White Supremacy, then why do you all always pick the
ignorant savages who want to murder everyone who is not white? instead
of the intelligent men who know that killing innocent people is not
the answer.

If these devils don't go to trial and be executed, then R. Kelly
should not be on trial at all.

Think about it!

Everything you ever wanted to know about politics, racism, White Supremacy, and religion,
but were afraid to ask!

Who cares? The world will be a better place when Iran is wiped off the
map.

Look at the chimp chirping about savages. How about your shit hut
savage brothas the Hutu's, who hacked 970,000 people to death?

R Kelly should tried, beaten, then drawn and quartered for molesting
under-aged female animals.

Re: R. Kelly arrives in court

Damn, what's it been, live FIVE or more years since this happened and
this guy is just NOW facing trial? (And no, it's not the system
that's slow, Kelly's lawyers have intentionally gummed up the
proceedings in that hope that by the time they get to trial the victim
will no longer be a little girl, and, hopefully, less sympathetic to
the jury.)

I'm pretty damn sure if some Average Joe where to piss on an underage
girl (and be dumb enough to film himself doing it), he'd be doing hard
time by now, but I guess it's okay if you're a celeb to do such shit.
