For only $46M in cash, Brooke Astor's 14-room apartment can be yours

Brooke Astor's corner library, designed by Albert Hadley, features red
lacquer shelves and is said to be one of the most photographed rooms
in New York. There are five wood-burning fireplaces and six terraces

$17,000 - quickly hit the top spot on Corcoran's most-viewed
properties list on its Web site. It's an apartment fit for a queen,
with a price tag to match - and here's a peek inside. Brooke Astor's
palatial Park Ave. spread officially went on sale Monday for $46
million - all cash. The 14-room duplex where New York's grandest
grande dame spent most of the last half-century of her life boasts a
living room with spectacular views up and down Park Ave. and a library
with red lacquer shelves that is said to be one of New York's most-
photographed rooms. There are five wood-burning fireplaces and six
terraces. The pricey pad - monthly maintenance is more than $17,000 -
quickly hit the top spot on Corcoran's most-viewed properties list on
its Web site. The listing for the spectacular apartment offers a rare
glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of Astor, who died last year at age
105 amid controversy over her care. One photo shows the sprawling
living room with several oversize windows. A second shot depicts the
corner library designed by Albert Hadley. There are also pictures of
an ornate dining room where Astor once entertained the city's high
society and a sitting room where she spent some of her quiet moments.
For ordinary New Yorkers used to shoehorning into compact one- or two-
bedroom flats, the floor plan alone is a vision of excess. Broker
Leighton Candler also sold billionaire David Koch's $30 million Fifth
Ave. apartment, which once belonged to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
Astor's sprawling apartment played a central role in the scandalous
case of her son, Anthony Marshall, who is awaiting trial on charges he
looted her assets. Marshall's son also accused him of allowing his
regal mom to languish with substandard care in the gilded apartment,
and said she sometimes lay on a urine-stained couch. Astor also had a
country estate in Briarcliff Manor, where she died of pneumonia. There
was no word on when that mansion might go on the block. PHOTOS:

Sexy actress Jennifer Connelly is saying bye-bye, Brooklyn. The
"Beautiful Mind" hottie and her Brit actor husband, Paul Bettany, are
selling their corner mansion on Prospect Park West for $8.5 million,
more than twice what they paid for it five years ago. A listing for
the couple's turn-of-the-century gem calls it a "Golden Age limestone"
and one of the "all-time great houses of New York." The mansion boasts
nine bedrooms, 31/2 bathrooms, central air conditioning and a security
system to protect the inner movie star in you. Ornate woodwork graces
the home, along with windows that open up on the leafy park directly
across the street. Photos offer a glimpse into the A-list couple's
luxe life, with a shaggy white carpet facing a wood-burning stove in
the upstairs sitting room. There's also a gated garden in back. "This
property is simply outstanding in every way," gushes the listing with
Sotheby's. It better be. Oscar-winner Connelly, 37, who also starred
in "Blood Diamond," and Bettany bought the place in 2003 for a
reported $3.7 million. That looks like a bargain, even in today's
softening real estate market. Even if they don't get their price,
don't cry for Paulifer. The celebrity couple reportedly signed a deal
to buy a $7 million penthouse on the West Village's gold coast. The
new 4,000-square-foot pad boasts to-die-for views of the Hudson River
to the west and up to midtown Manhattan. It's got a loftlike layout,
private terrace and roof deck - and the owners recently slashed the
asking price by $1 million. PHOTOS: * tinyurl . com /45hll4
