technical English: "granularity" (think if a grain of sand). It means
the smallest division in data or an adjustment. Today's technician or
engineer would call it "resolution". In engineering, up until 15 or 20
years ago, the popular term in engineering was granularity - not to be
confused with jocularity). Anyway - it is clear in that quoted phrase
that the meaning is something like "fine-tuning knob".
