Maybe for everyone's benefit, everyone (at least the "good" guys here)
should realize something that Jack (above) made a comment about. We're all
benefitting by these free and open (unmoderated) newsgroups where you have
as free speech as free speech can be free. Over the last 10+ years or so,
all manner of commercialization has invaded the internet and quite a bit
of it has been aimed at getting people to come over to website chatrooms
where the censorship, stealing of authored ideas, creation of databases to
invade your privacy, throw "in-your-face" advertising, and exploitation of
vulnerabilities in your web browsers to place malware, spyware, rootkits,
keystroke loggers, etc., onto your boxes (you gus do have your browsers
configured to decline cookies, disable java/javascript/pop-ups, auto-anything,
right?).
Fine, owners of websites can run them the way they want. Next time these
cheap trolls come on here and try to suck/cajole/entrap/entice an audience
over to their website chatroom, go and see if you can play the game with
them (make a post there and invite people to come back to these really free, open
old-fashioned newsgroups and see how long it lasts). As far as I'm
concerned, all these guys running censored chatrooms or whatever and
constantly coming to newsgroups to suck away "victims" are a bunch of
parasites.
Otherwise, we're living in a world where "power" games are being played on
us...everything from telemarketing calls to our home telephones to
chatroom trolls.
