Contractor putting ad sign on property

I recently had some work done and contractor did a great job. The
thing is he put up an ad sign on my property which was not discussed
at the onset of work which kind of pisses me off. Am I out of line to
take this down without telling him. I've already paid for work but
don't want to create any hard feelings. There is nothing anyhere in
writing where I agreed to this. Don't people usually get discounts for
doing this since it's free advertising? The guy seems to have a great
rep around town which was why I hired him.....but still my question.

Other than advertising, it helps delivery drivers find him to drop
supplies.

That's only WHILE he's there. After he's done, the sign can go with him.

Was the sign agreement in the written contract? If not, throw it in the
dumpster. You didn't receive a discount for advertising for him.

Are you a bubble boy and have never been out of the house? How is it
possible that you don't see contractors' signs when you drive around?

Is this the first project you've ever done on your house? Why would
you assume that a contractor pays a homeowner to put up a sign? Where
do you think the money the contractor would pay the homeowner would
come from? Doh.

Why would his sign piss you off? The bulk of a contractor's referrals
come from neighbors.

Why would you do something stupid like take his sign down without
asking? Not asking beforehand about the sign caused your mental
turmoil.

But go ahead. Take down the sign and then try to guess where the guy
will cut a corner on your project in retaliation.

And to answer your question - yes, you're totally out of line.
Getting pissed off about such a thing is frightening. I feel sorry
for your contractor.

I'm not clear on this. Is the job done and the contractor gone ? Did he
forget to take it down when he left or does he leave his signs around the
neighborhood ? If he's done and gone, then I think most people would
just take the sign down without a second thought.

Yes I should have been more clear on that the job is done and he is
gone. He put the sign up when he left.
To the others who were appalled by me being pissed off...I've had
plenty of contractors working and understand the necessity for signage
while the work is in progress and have even offered them to put up
signs if they didn't have them. I hope this clears up my point.

No contractor should erect a sign after the job is done. I wouldn't be
angry at him for it though. Just shitcan the sign and move on.

My feeling is that the real problem here is that you are angry at
yourself not the contractor.

Works done, so give him a call. Certainly no problem in that and no hard
feelings will be made. Who knows why he put it up late, but as long as no
harm was done ie. he nailed it to the garage or your tree.

As for getting paid for his advertising, ever get a discount on clothing
just because it carried a logo? Good luck.
