Floating floor???

Floating floor???

I have a new room that I'm doing. I am going to put one of those floating
floors in this room. The drywall has not been put on the wall yet. Should
I raise the drywall off the floor about 1/2 inch or sit it right on the
sub-floor. I was wondering about the gap that is left on the perimeter of
the floating floor. I'll run molding around the room when I'm done.

Sit the drywall on the subfloor.

Leave a gap around the edge when you lay the floating floor for expansion.
The gap is normally covered by the baseboard/skirting/moulding or whatever
you call it in your country.

I've never heard of setting drywall on the floor. It would be
normal to rock the ceiling first. Then the usual thing is to hang
the walls horizontal, banging the upper sheet tight to the
ceiling. Install the bottom sheet tight to the upper sheet. This
will usually give you about a 1/2" gap at the floor. Floating
floors all need expansion at the walls. A usual amount is 1/2 or
more, each brand has requirements based on the total expanse of
floor. Baseboard might cover, but adding a base shoe would be
normal.

Even commercial vertical hung firecode is usually blocked off the
floor to allow plumbing of the sheets.

It's done that way in an air-tight drywall approach. That small gap
at the bottom is a major air infiltration culprit.

BS. the bottom plate is 1 1/2 inches tall. Leaving a half inch gap 'still'
puts one inch of drywall on the plate.

It should be off the floor a bit regardless of floor type.

If you hang the top sheets first, and jam the bottom one up against it,
you'll be about a half inch off the floor.
