Airfares up up up

Damn I'm all ready to piss away my stimulous check for yet another Vegas
trip in August, but I can't get a decent airfare from NYC. Can't help but
wonder how all this is impacting the strip biggies? Am I wrong or didn't
they help subsidize the airlines many years ago, when they used to have
"junket" trips? Can those days be far behind?

They still have them. The tour company that flies for Harrahs goes mainly to
Atlantic City but they do fly to Vega by invite only. BUT they are very
limited. Only flying out of Boston, Detroit, Grand Rapids and Providence.

Cheryl
I would love to find a site that flies Vegas from Michigan. Allegiant use
to, but they dropped the Vegas route. With rooms so cheap, hubby said we
could do Vegas in Aug but flights are running 380.00 each. Nope,, to rich
for me.

Yeah Harrah's used to subsidize National Airlines. Nowadays you just
have to book a few months ahead of time and/or get a credit card tied
to one of the major airlines to get "free' tickets. You can also try
Priceline for last minute deals.

We have FF miles but looks like the airlines are offering fewer and
fewer seats to use them on.

It sure sucks alright.

I just booked a trip from Portland to ManchVegas, I mean, Manchester
NH, and it cost $613.

That's twice what I paid several years ago.

When and where will the madness end?

Re: Airfares up up up

I have to agree with the post below. In order to get the fares you
want you have to book and pay in advance. The further in advance the
better. There are great fares to Vegas. You just have to look for
them, but they are there.

Now, if you are looking for the $99 fare from NYC, IMHO, that went out
a while back. Just look at the price range, then book it. Be ready
to not make your decisin in one sitting at the computer remembering
that haste makes waste. Lok around, take your time (to a point) then
do it. Once you get your ticket, STOP LOOKING!! You can drive
yourself crazy that way! :)

Have a great stay here in Vegas, get ready for the time of your
life! :)

Get the TrueBlue card from Jetblue and after your first charge you're
half way to a free trip. I only fly Jet blue and I paid $350 JFK-LAS
in April my friend paid the same for a weekend this coming Oct. I also
have 3 free flights this year, my trip to Phoenix 2 weeks ago, my trip
to Vegas in Oct. and I have 1 more I have yet to book. I can't decide
between Vegas in Dec., L.A. in April for opening day at Dodger Stadium
or maybe even the "Soiree" next year ( if I pick the right week for
vacation. 6/5-6/7???)

Promotions like these are one of the reasons that airlines are not
profitable. They have come to realize this and we are beginning to see
major cutbacks in the number of seats available for FF miles... and the
beginning of fees and charges to redeem miles. (Delta has just instituted a
$25 fuel surcharge fee... look for the other majors to follow suit)

FWIW - I think the days of inexpensive air travel are over. Over the past
few years we have seen fewer and fewer flights resulting in fewer empty
seats on the remaining flights. We've seen a reduction in services. Some
of the things that the airlines did were just plain stupid... like the times
when someone would run a special with $29 airfares just in an attempt to
get market share. You can't sell airfares for $29 or even $129 then give
away free Frequent Flyer flights and still expect to stay in business.

What they didn't realize is that consumers have no loyalty.... they buy
wherever the price is cheaper. A customer will (and has) switched air
lines for as little as $5 per person.

On top of that, right now the economy has gotten everyone in a panic and
prices of everything have gone up. I'm thinking that after a few months,
things will settle down and stabilize (at a higher rate) but for now,
everyone is in a "The Sky Is Falling" mode.

YMMV

Mrs. Nonny and I went to TX to see the grandkids. SWA had only TWO
seats available on the outbound trip- even after I expanded when we'd
consider traveling by three days. Again, only TWO seats spread out over
3 days of a non-even weekend. The two seats were on a 6:40a flight, via
Denver! The cash price of the tickets was north of $500 one way for
the two of us. The return was a lot cheaper, so we used our FF miles
outbound on those two miserable, rotten-timed seats, then paid for the
return.

(George understands about how I feel rising early to catch a flight. I
used to do it for a living, so to speak, and will be Darned if I'll
enjoy it for a vacation.)

Er. . . that a non-EVENT weekend.

Yup as I said, looks like the multiple Vegas vacation plans are getting
scrapped.

If you have a business friend or aquantance, or your business is a NV
Corp, your trip now and future trip(s) can be tax deductable. Not
free, but deductable.

You might want to get more info on that before you do it tho.
Business trips made for business are different than fun tourism
trips. Drop me an email with three ***, tax deductable in the
subject line and I will send you some via return email.
