The things you see on TV in Vegas

There was an ad for Deja Vu Showgirls that claimed, "If you take a
taxi or limo, make sure they take you to Deja Vu - taxi and limo
drivers are paid up to $80 to divert customers to other clubs". What's
the real story?

From what has appeared in the newspaper, that is true. The club
doorman give a "tip" to the cabbie for delivering people. That means
when you get into an LV taxi and say, "Take me to the Olive Garden," the
driver will automatically go into his speil; "Nobody goes there,"
"The place isn't safe," "The girls at XXX Club are ten times hotter,"
or, "Let me take you to a really GOOD place."

The idea is that the driver takes you to a club that pays him a generous
tip for bringing in fresh customers. The more people, the bigger the
tip. This is true as well for limo drivers.

Also, be aware that many doormen at even the best casino hotels are also
on the take, from what I hear. If a group of guys show up and want a
taxi, the doorman will inquire about their destination. If it's a strip
club or other similar attraction, he'll "suggest" that you get a LIMO-
and most of the time the limo will be "free." The limo driver tips the
doorman for diverting you, and then gets 1) usually a generous tip from
the riders and, 2) a great tip from the strip club where he then takes
or diverts you to.

And when you get to the Olive Garden, make sure to ask for their unlimited
soup of the day.

Now that you've brought it up and I thought it through, it also explains
why that waitress at Olive Garden had me tossed out for stuffing a
dollar bill in her shorts

Re: The things you see on TV in Vegas

There are certain places that tip taxi drivers when they drop customers
off. Most every strip club tips drivers at night. When I was a driver
(2000-2003) the going rate at reputable strip clubs was $10-20 per
passenger. Rip-off places (Tally Ho, Can Can Room) would pay as much as
$50.

It wasn't limited to strip clubs either. Massage parlors would tip, and
if you were ever lucky enough to deliver someone to a brothel, you could
expect a triple digit tip. During my final days as a driver, there was
fierce competition among wedding chapels. If you delivered a new customer
to a wedding chapel, it was possible to get $80-150.

Things may have changed in the last five years, but I doubt it.

Is that Can-Can still open? It was notorious for robbing and
threatening people.

It's still there, and it's probably still a thieving clip joint. 2 of
my friends got taken there about 10 years ago and last I heard they
haven't changed their program. Stay far far away from the Can Can
Room.

Is the Palomino Club still around or has it long been demolished? I went
there about 27 years ago and it was the old Burlesque type of club. It was
a little shady on the outside but hopping on the inside. Vic

Re: Strip Clubs

I went to the Palomino Club over twenty years ago too, and this was after
pulling practically an all-night the night before. It was "amateur" night,
which meant that the strippers PRETENDED to be amateurs.

Strip clubs always bore me anyway, but this was just too much. I dozed
off. Well, they had an MC who was a real jerk-funny guy. He singled me out
and threw something in my direction. We were with a big group, couples,
and everyone got a big kick out it.

The club was the dregs back then so I can't imagine how it is now with all
the competition from the fancy dan clubs today. The last club I've been to
is OG's about ten years ago. The whole scene is just so fake....girls
turning on the guys who are trying to turn on the girls....give me a break!

The most fun I ever had a strip club was in New Orleans. It was a nice
place, a chain I believe, and I took my wife. The girls would come out in
three stages--first sort of prime and proper, then more racey, then almost
bare. My wife loved depicting each girl's previous life in her mind.
Cheerleader. Someone who was never liked by her peers. Etc. She got a kick
out of the ridiculous demeanor of the men too.

Back in the mid 70's, Mrs Nonny and I attended a convention when it was
in Miami, staying at the Fontainbleu <sp>hotel. Off the lobby was a
large lounge with a circular bar in the center. We sat at a table away
from the bar and watched the Hookers circling the bar. It was a hoot,
and when one would "hook up" with her true love, we'd time how long it
took for her to return to circling the bar. One particularly good
looking gal departed with gents 4 times during the >1 hour we were
observing.

I was throwing dice at the GN about 4:00 one morning and the bar was
full of girls working the place. One girl of no particular
attractiveness hit on and was taken up on by three guys during my
table tenure of about 2 hours.

Re: Strip Clubs

The wife and I usually rise very early, and I'm out the door and at the VP
bar before she gets dressed and follows. On several occasions I have
struck up conversations with hookers at the center bar there at the GN.
They are usually exhausted from working all night, and I am fresh,
showered and sober.

One time my wife came down and I was talking to a real nice girl, though
she looked extremely worn and shabby. She had been confiding to me the
tricks of her trade. I introduced the girl to my wife as a "working girl."
Of course my wife didn't know what a "working girl" was, so she said
"that's nice, where do you work?" We all got a big laugh out of it.
