Big Ass BBQ Grill

Part duce of wedding trip report continued from:
"Vegas Wedding Advice, Please" post.

We headed on to Laughlin for a three day
honeymoon staying at the Edgewater Casino.
Having stayed at Harrah's, Palms and Riverside
in the past. We ended up at the Edgewater
because they had the best deal at the time.

Reservations were made through Tripreservations,com
as they were cheaper than all the casino websites.
Upon checking in I asked "Do people give you a
phoney reason to get a better room?, like saying
they're on a honeymoon?" They said all the time!
I showed the reservationist our wedding certificate
with the ink still wet. She called her supervisor
over and he looked for a good room. We were upgraded
to a river view room on the 8th floor. Being so close
to the river, the first thing that came insight was the
Home Depot in Bullhead City. The room was well
worn as most of the previous rooms in Laughlin
except for Harrahs.

Staying in Laughlin, you are hard pressed to find
things to do over three days. Upon joining the
players club at the Tropicana Express and
mentioning we were on our honeymoon we
were comped to their version of the Follies
Bergere, a mini version of the one at the
Tropicana in Vegas. It was actually quite good
and would have been worth more than the ticket
price if we had paid.

Regardless of the Trops problems in Vegas &
Atlantic City, The Express had showed remarkable
improvements and the casino was on par with
Harrah's and Golden Nugget. Between the burlesque
they had a vaudeville comedian who was outrageously
funny & spoke in a thick French accent. During his second
appearance, he announced he was going to cut the
bs about being French and dropped the accent. He
told the story about his new humongist (sp) bbq
grill. It was really big, while bbq'ing he noticed
his wife bending over in the garden and compared
her ass to the grill, they were about the same size
and he mentioned it to her. Letter that night he was in
the love making mood and his wife would have no
part of it, finally she said to him "You want me to fire
up my big ass bbq for one small weenie"?

We had two of our dinners at Harrah's buffet using
our American Casino Guide 2/1's. It was unremarkable
but much better than the other buffets I had been to
in Laughlin. Also when you join the Colorado Belle's
& Edgewater players club you get $5 off either
properties buffets by showing your players card.
One morning about 9 am the line was so long, at
the breakfast buffet because it only cost $2 with the
card. We went over to the River Palms for breakfast
for a sit down meal.

We had played blackjack at all the casino's and had
actually won at every property. We do quit when we
get ahead and move on to something else. In total
we won about $300 almost covering our expenses.
At the Colorado they had a promotion of 5 suited
blackjacks you win $55. Within the hour my wife had
four suited blackjacks. They give you a card and
rubber stamp it. Finally I had my first suited blackjack
but the dealer told the pit boss my wife had it after
she collected the cards in play. Several minutes
later the pit boss handed my wife $55 in cash.

Other things we did is cover Christmas Tree pass
in its entirety, this is a dangerous thing to do, I
wished I had been warned, do not attempt to
do this. Also we rented a jetski which was a blast.
The prices at the casino were sky high, so we drove
over to Bullhead City which has several rental places.
Most places wanted $200 for the day and we found
one place that advertised $25 per hour but the hook
was that is was for an 8 hour minimum rental. The one
hour rental cost was a little over $70 and believe me,
one hour is enough but well worth it.

Probably after I post this I will remember other things
as it was last Sept 8th.

Could you elaborate on Christmas tree pass? Were you in a four wheel drive,
other cars on the road, spots to let people pass? length? map used?
Probably more than just me have thought about this road before. Thx in
advance.

Hello Jim

The first 3 or 4 miles seem interesting, then the road gets real
bad. We are talking approximately 18 miles of unpaved, rutted
desert terrain and bone jarring. The road gets so bad you are
traveling at 4 or 5 mph and continued this way for over 3 hours
wishing it would end. I was really concerned for our safety
as we saw only two vehicles and that was several miles
into the trip and they were going in the opposite direction.
Maybe they were smart and had turned arround. The road is
unpaved and unmaintained, anything you see in the first
two miles is repeated in the next 16. The road was mostly
1 1/2 lanes, sometimes two. You try to aim your vehicle
on the best portion, which for many miles was the wind
blown berm consisting of sand.

We went back to our hotel in Laughlin. When I tried to
restart my car (1997 Toyota Camry) it failed to start.
Upon opening the hood, the jarring from Christmas
Tree Pass had loosened one of my battery terminals.
Several months later the batter had to be replaced,
leaking acid and died. The battery was less than two
years old, it had been a replacement for my original
Toyota battery.

It has been many years since I drove over Christmas Tree Pass. I did it in
a rental car and while the road was rough, I never felt it was unsafe. I'm
guessing that with budget cuts, etc that road maintenance isn't high on the
gub'mints priority list. When I was in Vegas in Joone... we were upgraded
to a Chevy Trail Blazer and if I had had the time, I would have liked to
have done Christmas Tree Pass again.

For the OP...

Since Christmas Tree Pass is no longer good to do, if you are in Laughlin,
you might try going to Grapevine Canyon.
http :// www .laughlinnevadaguide,com /spiritmountain.htm and
http :// www .laughlinnevadaguide, com /grapevinemap.htm It is a very short walk
from a parking area to where there are some good petroglyphs.

If you really want a good website for traveling around "out of town", go to
http :// www .cmdrmark, com / Commander Mark is the expert.

Last May I had the breakfast buffet at the Edgewater and I don't think it
was even worth the $2 nevermind the regular $6.99.
Not even the eggs and toast were worth the money.
