What is Hip

1On a recent post one of us brought up the thought that one of the
Vegas hotels is going "Hip and Trendy". To which, many of us vented
our angst at the idea. Then I started thinking if I had a blank check
and could make a Vegas hotel my version of hip, what would it be like?

You would start by grabbing a $15.00 martini in the bar named after an
adjective such as "Brash" "Tender" or something like that. Then you would
proceed to your $259.00 a night room with a flat screen tv, and fully
stocked mini bar with $8.00 M & M's, your view will be of the air condition
units and loading dock of a neighboring hotel. After you get settled it's
off to the "European" bathing allowed pool which will cost you $30.00 to
enter, for the privilege of seeing 2-3 mature women exposing their assets
while dodging the 1,552 males in the area who are acting like they aren't
that interested in said assets. You will see many attractive women show up
then within 15 minutes leave due to the 1000's of eyes directed their way
eagerly anticipating the moment she begins her Euro bathing period. After
paying your $75.00 bill for the 3 beers and hamburger you had at the pool
you will clean up and head out to dinner. The restaurant will be a noun like
"Switch" "Cork" or something like that. After paying your $225.00 bill you
will head over to a nightclub. The nightclub will be a verb like "Bend"
"Tuck" or something like that. After paying for your bottle service you are
seated and presented a $350.00 bottle of Absolute with complementary mixers.
You will be kicked out of your table within an hour because a group of
21year olds wearing Affliction t shirts just paid for 3 bottles and you are
the low man on the totem pole, sorry. On the way back to your room you will
play some $25.00 minimum 6:5 BJ and be propositioned by a soiled dove and
have a decision to make...

That reads like an outline for "Vegas Virgin II."

You just decribed the exact opposite of "Cameron's Club". The restaurant
there would be called the "coffee shop", the nightclub would be called
lounge", where seating would be available to anyone that can find a seat &
drinks are $1.50-$3.00 plus tip. Bottle services is if you buy a bottle
from the gift shop & bring it with you. Free if you're playing VP at the
bar. Another bar in the hotel would be called the "bar", drink prices &
policy would be the same there as well. The gourmet room/steakhouse would
be called the "Cameron's Club Gourmet Room". The hotel rooms would range in
price from $39 to $149, depending on how fancy a room you wanted & if you
give some decent actino on the casino floor, you probably got that comped,
as well as a few meals. The casino would have 3:2 blackjack, 10X odds at
craps, and........plenty of cocktail waitresses that looked like they
stepped out of a Russ Meyer movie. C'mon, you knew that line was coming!

Said flat-screen HDTV is, of course, being fed a staticy 4:3 SD
picture . But as long as it isn't showing a picutre, it looks darn
good hanging on the wall.

Yup! Elegant casino without being overbearing, nice rooms, decent odds,
good food, and great drink waitresses.

I think you just described the Desert Inn.

Cam---

As much as the DI was all those things, the casino was BORING, and staffed
by dealers older than 75 who didn't know how to smile.

All the times we went in the year before it closed it was dead in there. It
really lost something in the late 1990's

Unfortunately, the Desert Inn was a temporary home for Steve Wynn's art
gallery when I moved to LV, and I never got to see the DI as a real casino.

Since my thread posted prior to me finishing yesterday. Allow me to
answer.......myself.

With a blank check, I would purchase the Plaza. I would also purchase
1I would begin with a total modification of the rooms.
Assuming the building to be structurally sound I would make it an all
suite hotel.
There is a resturaunt somewhere that Cameron spoke of several months
ago that would be refurbished.
The club area where "The Ratpack is Back" plays in would be next to be
refurbished but kept cozy and definitely not expanded.
The entire casino and street level would be brought current

I'd have a Strip Club in it. They make a lot of money.
