Subway

Subway

One problem with the monorail is that it is not conveniently located,
especially for accessing properties on the other side of the strip.

Seems to me that a Golden Opportunity was missed transport-wise.

What they COULD and probably SHOULD have done is build a subway under
the strip.

It would be air conditioned in the summer, which would certainly be a
plus for the rabble.

I wonder why an underground transport network wasn't opted for?

Read somewhere a while back that it seemed like moving packages underground
and people above ground was a better idea...people want to SEE things as the
move from place to place, while packages don't really appreciate the
scenery.

I think Tex A&M was developing (considering developing maybe) some sort of
underground delivery system (not necessarily at A&M).

Re: Subway----A&M's project

Actually, A&M is working on an underground way to get to the moon. Their
only problem is that they have to work at night because that is the only
time the moon is accessible.

It'll be interesting to be a spectator as our high speed rail between
Disneyland and LV develops. As you probably know, Harry Reid has
twisted the arms of congresscritters and gotten us a big appropriation
to "study and plan" the (possible maglev) line. I'd be willing to bet
up front that where it ENDS in LV will leave a gap between it, the
airport and any monorail terminal so that our taxi and limo owners can
keep long hauling tourists out into the future.

Right now, my best guess is that it'll end somewhere to the South of Sun
City Anthem, leaving at least a $20 cab ride to even Mandalay Bay or
it's replacement. <grin>

The first time I heard about a high speed train between Anaheim and
Las Vegas was 18 years ago. I'm really doubting that it ever gets
built.

It keeps (kept) not getting built because it wasn't economically
advantageous compared to driving and flying. That could change.

Of course it probably won't. Much better to beat the war drums that we
need to start drilling in (fill in your favorite wilderness here) so we
can keep doing things the same old way.

If this country had any forethought we'd be dangerous.

This might be the correct explanation, but I like the one that the
bookstore manager gave to me.

My son was a graduate student at A&M, and I was ordering some things
from the bookstore. I saw this picture back then, and asked the
bookstore manager about it. The picture is real and well known on
campus. You see, it wasn't in anticipation of a storm, but the photo
was taken during a remodeling of an off-campus store. The plywood was
inside the glass to protect it from the remodeling going on inside.

It's funnier as captioned, but I thought that the truth might be of
interest as well.

By the way, if you have some spare time, take a look at some of the
traditions on the Aggie campus. The ones about the 12th man and the
dog, Reveille, are especially entertaining. The dead Reveille versions
are buried at the north end of the stadium, and there's even a small
scoreboard by their gravesite so they can "know" the score of the games.

Nonny--

My last child graduated from A&M, and although the rest of the family
bleeds burnt orange including myself, I came to respect the traditions
engrained in A&M and also have found the students to be very polite nerds,
though still hicks.

I recalled that you had one at A&M, Doc. That description is right on,
too.

Gotta run. . . ribs are smoking away and I might need to put on a little
