Vegas Semi-Solo July 2008 Trip Itinerary

Vegas Semi-Solo July 2008 Trip Itinerary

T-7+ days and counting:

I will be leaving very early next Saturday morning for a four-day (semi-
solo) Vegas trip from Boston. Upon arrival solo at about 11:00 AM at
McCarran instead of taking the free airport shuttle bus to the McCarran
Rent-A-Car Center across the I-215, I am renting a car from Dollar at
their outlet on Swenson St just across Tropicana (actually closer to the
airport terminal than the McCarran Rent-A Car Center). The only
difference is I'll get on the CAT 108 Bus at the airport terminal (which
comes every 20 minutes) at a cost of $1.25 and be dropped off (first
stop) on Swenson about a half-block from the Dollar outlet.

Why?

The airport pickup rate for the car adds airport fees of about $30 to
the cost of the car. I'm saving ($30 - $1.25 =) $28.75 and I can return
the car to the airport Rent-A-Car-Center anyway with no added airport
fees (just can't pick it up there).

I'm going solo this time for just four days and will only have a carry-
on bag (on wheels). But if you go with others a good strategy (I'm told)
is to have just one person go get the car via the CAT bus (leaving the
others and all luggage at the terminal) and then go back to pick them up
and the luggage at the terminal. The round trip distance back and forth
to and from Swenson is about the same distance as the entire one way
trip to the McCarran Rent-A-Car-Center from the terminal.

Never did this before, but heard about it and decided to try it. Will
report back if the reality works as well as the plan.

From there, I'll drive to the Hilton Saturday afternoon to check in
(which is closer to the Swenson Dollar Outlet than having to drive from
the McCarran rental center). Will stay for four nights including a
Saturday night for a TOTAL cost of $199 on a special offer.

Gambling

Have a cache of matchplays and freeplays (MPs and FPs) from ACG, POV,
and Casino Player. Will do an all day North Las Vegas coupon run
including a number of $20 and $25 MPs.

Will also do strip area MP/FP coupon runs including the Hard Rock,
Terrible's, Hilton, Ellis Island, IP, Hooters, Sahara, Stratosphere, the
Palms, and Gold Coast as well as a trip downtown to do additional MPs
and FPs (ElCo, Binion's, Fitz, and Four Queens).

Also plan to spend some hours playing $0.25 x 10 coin FP Deuces Wild
(FPDW) VP at the Rainbow Club Casino in Henderson and some $0.25 FPDW
and $0.50 to $1.00 Loose Deuces Wild at GVR, the Palms, and the Hilton.

Entertainment

Have no plans except might see Bobby Slayton at Hooters if I get a free
admission pass via the Hooter's Player's club sign-up. Also might see
Yellow Brick Road formerly at the now-closed Railhead at Boulder
Station, now reportedly at GVR. May also check out the Pinball Museum.
I've seen all the Cirque shows already. I typically spend nore time on
entertainment when I go with my wife every Thanksgiving.

Food

Being solo most of the time, I will probably use some POV 50% off buffet
coupons at various Station casinos, the Orleans, and/or the Rampart.
Also might use a 50% off coupon at Roberta;s at the El Cortez. Also I
hope to finally try In & Out Burger. For something new might try the
Entoca San Marco at the Venetian, the new Grand Luxe at the Pallazzo, or
the Bonefish Grill in Henderson (small chain originally started in FL)
or the Rainbow Club coffee shop in Henderson.

Coincidentally, I found out my brother will be in Vegas on business a
couple of the same days. So I'll attempt to do some stuff together with
him as his schedule allows,

Will send a trip report upon return.

Excellent. Great tip.

Good choice. I saw one of their burgers highly rated. It might have
been in one of the links Westi posted today or yesterday.

For something new might try the new Grand Luxe at the Pallazzo,

Nice, Grand Lux in Pallazzo too. One of my favorites.

I like the Silverton dinner buffet on Fri-Sat with the ACG coupon.

Also the Rampart dinner buffet on Tuesday when the serve the steak and
shrimp scampi. Be advised that the Rampart cashier was asking to see
the entire ACG book (not just the coupon) when I went there in April.
She let me thru anyway but keep it in mind.

Good luck with all the matchplays.

Thanks,.The goal line seems to move back and forth at a few places on
the conditions of acceptance of ACG buffet coupons.

I've heard the same is sometimes true at GVR regarding ACGs, and Fiesta
and Red Rock almost never accept ACGs under any conditions.

POV coupons seem to be less of a problem being accepted.

But in addtion to keeping my ACG membership card in my wallet, I'll at
least keep one of the ACG books in the car for situations like you
mentioned.

My experience so far with these are feast or famine.

One trip I hit nearly all the higher denomination MPs and most losses
were with the smaller denomination ones.

The next trip I think I lost on close to 80% of them and nearly all the
losses were the higher denomination MPs,

Maybe this trip things will be closer to the normal expectation of
winning 45% to 50% of them. That would suit me just fine.

On another topic, anyone seen the show at Hooters called The Mentalist.
Vegas4locals has a free admission coupon good for two people on their
website?

http :// www .vegas4locals,com /couponsshows.html

The only catch is a one drink per person minimum at $7.95 per drink.
Allegedly, the full price is $36.95 PP.

ACG author Steve Bourie posts coupon changes/problems on his website,
although there's no mention yet of Rampart asking to see the book.

Other than having to carry around the whole POV book, which thankfully
is more or less pocket-sized. The ACG may eventually have to go to a
smaller coupon book if the problems with coupon counterfeiting get
worse.

Haven't seen it myself nor would I. Fraud and trickery under the guise
of "mentalism" or mind-reading is something I would never pay for.

I have no problem with conventional magicians who don't claim or imply
any supernatural powers. I just don't like guys like the so-called
"Amazing" Kreskin who purport to mine the thoughts of gullible audience
members.

Speaking of conventional magicians, AVLV's favorite is Mac King. If
you haven't seen him yet at Harrah's, a POV coupon gets you the show
and a drink for $9.95.

Also "World's Greatest Magic Show" at Greek Isles has been available
same-day of performance for free (well, $2 service charge) if you call
the box office at 10 AM to reserve tickets. You can also upgrade to
better seats for $7.50 each.

I always thought that a casino/hotel themed like The Village would be a
great attraction in LV!
