Starbucks Closings in Vegas

Sixteen Starbucks stores in Vegas will be among the 600 announced
closings. No casino outlets are slated for closing.

http :// www .lvrj,com /breaking news/25598959.html

According to the Starbucks store locator, the Vegas area will be left
with fewer than 170 Starbucks locations.

I'm sure a Java Express will just snap up the locations.

I'm surprised to see the one on Eastern and Serene is listed, that one has
been there a long time. In fact it was one of the original tenants of that
Wal-Mart/Home Depot shopping center 10 years ago

We're normally in that center 3-4 times a week and I don't recall ever
noticing it. I guess it doesn't matter, since I drink plain old coffee
and think their stuff is both overpriced and bitter.

You haven't noticed it because it's all the way up in the corner of Eastern
and Serene. I was only in there once, and they had a line of customers. I've
never been in the one on Eastern and Horizon Ridge, so have no idea what
their business is like. There's a new Starbucks in Vons, and I've never seen
it as being very busy any time I've been in there.

People complain about $4 a gallon gas. They should be complaining about a
$4 cup of coffee.

I like coffee... but I never bought into the Starbucks mystique. It's just
coffee with various kinds of crap added.

McDonald's coffee suits me fine.

I don't have a reason to complain about $4 coffee because I can get it
elsewhere or make it at home for cheap...but gas doesn't seem to work
that way.

Oh... don't get me wrong... I think we are getting screwed at the pump. I
laughed this morning when some "talking head" on TV said that the lower oil
prices would take 4 to 6 weeks to make a difference at the pump. Of course,
when eh cost of a barrel of oil goes up, the price at the pump goes up
overnight.

I don't like Newt Gingrich but I agree with much of what he says in this
video:

http :// www .youtube,com /watch?v=UOpcPfAarjY

I am an environmentalist... but buying oil from foreign countries when we
have untapped reserves here is just plain stupid.... and not using nuclear
power to generate electricity is criminal. FRANCE generates 70% of their
electricity from nuclear power while we still burn coal as if it were the
1800's. Shame on us.

Let's use our own oil (safely)... and lessen our dependence on oil and coal
by going nuclear.

Doesn't much matter if we start using garbage or orkra or
whatever....they got the prices high enough now that $3 a gallon of
whatever would make people happy....that was probably the goal in the
first place.

Everything goes up...and up...then comes down a little....by the time
they really do anything of substance $5 a gallon or whatever the unit
will seem like a great deal. Had to find a nickel candy bar anymore.

I've seen the same thing happening again and again since gas was
about $2 a gal. The oil prices quickly get raised to to an
uncomfortable level, say $3.75 a gal, and then slowly drop back down,
leveling off at maybe $2.30 - never less than where they started.

The oil companies look, point and laugh, saying, "Can you believe
these idiots? When the price of oil goes up, we jacked up the price,
make $billions and we don't even take delivery or pay for the oil for
6 months to a year. Then to calm them down so they quit writing
letters to their representatives, we strart dropping the price and
level off for a while at a price that's higher than gas was when we
jacked up the price. Look, the idiots are all smiling and are happy
to have "cheap" gas again."

An "Orkra" is a killer whale, as in Shamu though some people spell it
"orca" an "okra" is a great southern vegetable.
