First of, do bear in mind that most people who buy a Dupont don't buy a
lighter.
They buy a status symbol, a toy and -- for some of the more flamboyant
models -- an acceptable item of male jewellery. This is reflected in the
mark-up: a second-hand Dupont, even New Old Stock, will typically sell for
around half of its retail price.
That said, we have four Duponts in my immediate family: two vintage and two
modern (one X-Tend). They all work very well, are of extremely solid
construction and are a pleasure to use. If you can't escape the urge to own
a premium lighter, you can't do better than a Dupont, IMHO.
