I smoked my way through a few boxes of the Pirate's Gold some years
ago, and they were decent enough cigars. Not great, but I've paid lots
more for worse. Horrible, cheesy design on the boxes and bands, but
well made long filler cigars with typcal Honduran flavor profiles.
I've not tried them since they moved the operation to the Dominican
Republic, so it may well be a regrettable decision on CI's part.
As for the fivepacks situation, I have bought many boxes of Fuentes,
Toraños, CAOs, Hoyos, Rocky Patels etc etc through CBid over the past
several years for as much as 50% less than any advertised price from
any other cigar retailer.
Do they sell some crap? You bet. So does JR's, Holt's, Mike's and
most, if not all, other retailers. But when I can get a box of cigars
for 20-30% less than anywhere else, I know where I'll be spending my
money.
