I was gifted a Sir Winston from '03 in a "Pass it forward" thread on a
cigar forum. Received it yesterday, smoked it this evening after a
steak dinner at one of my favorite little steak houses.
Lit easily with matches. Earth and cedar on the first inch or so,
which then transformed magnificently into an excellent cream and spice
profile. This continued throughout the duration of the cigar, with the
occasional burst of cedar.
With around two inches left, a very herbal taste joined in, not at all
unpleasant, and the cigar finished on a strong herbal/leather note.
What an amazing smoke! Undoubtedly one of the best cigars I've ever
had! Now I know why Marc has always mentioned these in such high
regard.
For me, this was nearly the perfect smoke. Construction could have
been better, and I had to touch it up several times as the burn
started to wobble a bit too much for my liking.
If the '03s are this good, I wonder how earlier vintages are? (Yes,
this might be a mooch)
