what has happened to this group? Most of the recent posts have been
spam from China. Can't someone delete this garbage?

Thanks for volunteering. Please make sure all spam is deleted before anyone
reads it. Thanks again!

Put all cross-posts in your killfile. Put a lot of stuff in your killfile.

It's not crossposted. It appears to all be coming through Google. You
could KF Google, but you'd lose any nice posts from there as well.

That's like saying if your willing to sift through six tons of garbage, you
might find your missing car keys.

Absolutely. Google news is the dregs of usenet. There are a few
decent folks using it, but most are completely useless.

Google news is fine for searching the archives. It is not a good
newreader, and it has given anonymity to a new breed of trolls.

My DI in Basic Training, in telling us how to stand at attention, told us,
"Stand with your feets together!". I said, "Excuse me?".

We had this problem on sci.math. Many folks (including me)
simply killfiled "google.groups", and added exceptions to
the filtering rule. Some folks' .sig's say something to
this effect, so that newbies can e-mail them and request
to be excepted.

We at USENET Headquarters take SPAM serious.

DEAD serious.

We will endeavor to proceed at eliminating said SPAM, with all
deliberate speed.

Whatever SPAM you may see may, in fact, be ANTI-SPAM, propagated by
our own Headquarters in the attempt to negate actual SPAM.

We learned this from Star Trek (TOS and NG, but never Voyager).

Be assured that U-Headquarters is working day and night to assure your
peaceful and uninterrupted surfing of the Internet.

Even though this is really USENET and not the same thing as the
Internet.

But, you are just a git with hardly an understanding of your place in
the world, let alone your actual DNA heritage, and completely clueless
of the multifaceted threats posed by intergalactic beings who hold the
fate of your entire civilization in their webbed, four-pawed, yet
infinitely flexible and articulate hands.
