Why waste your breath moaning at the crowd?
Nothing can be done to stop the shouting.
If every tongue were still the noise would still continue.
The rocks and stones themselves would start to sing:

Hosanna Hey Sanna Sanna Sanna Hosanna
Hey Sanna Hosanna
Hey JC, JC won't you fight for me?
Sanna Hosanna Hey Superstar

Yes but they're giving their lives for a higher cause.

Strangely enough, I've actually thought about plants and life....where do
you draw the line.

However it hasn't stopped me from eating them....or meat for that matter.

bernie.. hunger trumps philosophy?

All life is sacred and miraculous. However, some life forms are less
important to mankind and could IMO be graded as such. For example, a
solitary ant or fly contains the same miraculous life...but is less
important than a family member or (most) human beings. Killing a
lettuce by eating it is an extermination of that miraculous gift, but
is a lesser form and is needed as sustenance.

Something, however, tells me I should be a vegetarian every time I
taste the Baroness' meatloaf.

I'm sure the lion or alligator would think the same thing about you or me.
Your place on the food chain is a relative thing.

That's just common sense.

Or is it more like self-preservation instinct?

From what the Baron says, it tastes like formaldehyde, so preservation is
the operative word.

While I don't disagree, I sometimes wonder about the test used to
determine relative rankings.

I wonder about the context of the word "life" used.

Strickly defined:

Movement - Animals and single cell. (plants ??)
[somewhat excludes me]

Excretion
[I do that]

Reproduction
[been there, done that]

Respiration
[if alcohol level under 300]

Irritability
[always]

Nutrition - (Including photosynthesis)
[yeah! alcohol!]

Growth
Example: size 44 waiste.
