On Filling my Old Boy ...

On Filling my Old Boy ...

Hello all!

Another Old Boy question here ...

Whenever I fill my Old Boy I get a lot of spray back. This occurs
even when I depressurize it before I re-fill. I'm using Colibri
butane refill fluid. The nozel does not seem to be quit right for the
Old Boy unit. Or am I doing something wrong? It still fill the
lighter but I do get a lot of spray back leaving my hands and lighter
cold and wet. Do you have any insight into solving this problem?

Thank you so very much for all your collective wisdom and kindness!

Best regards,

Chem

Make sure that the canister is straight when you fill it.

Hi Chem,

One of my Old Boys does that too--despite straight and down etc. I
sent it in for repair but got it back the same way. My other Old Boy
does it somewhat. I'll be interested to see what folks have to say.
Hope you have a good smoke before bed. -- Tim

Sounds like your overfilling it. Fill it to a count of 5 and see what
happens.

Thanks everyone! Do you have a favorite butane brand? I use Colibri
but I was wondering if there was something better or has a more
compatible nozle for the Old Boy?

Thanks!

I also have used Lava brand with good results, and now use one called Lucienne
since Lava is no longer available around here, also works well.

I too get backspray when filling my Old Boys, and deal with it by only applying
pressure for about 2-3 seconds, waiting for a bit and then doing it again. Since
I don't need to refill very often, it seems to do the trick.

Just your basic flake, and official Old Fart!

Re: On Filling my Old Boy ...

Lava works well for me. The standard nozzle seems to fit. I use one
of the plastic adaptors provided on the cap for bleeding prior to
filling.
Best,
Preston
