rancid tin smell

Just popped open a 3yr old tin of C&D Black Frigate earlier and was
immediately greeted with a horrible rancid smell. A cross between fresh dog
doo on a hot day and that pungent sour smell at the local garbage dump. I
half expected to see the toacco covered in mold or something, but it looked
great. I loaded a small Savinelli and tried it out...not too bad...not too
great but I won't go into a review. The tobaccy had an earthy taste,
somewhat like Puh-erh tea, and that garbage dump smell came and went once or
twice....and the after taste in my mouth was quite unpleasant as well.

Now is this typical of this tobacco or could there actually be something
wrong with this tobacco?

That certainly doesn't sound like anything I've ever encountered when opening a
tin of anything. Don't know what Black Frigate is supposed to be like, but that
doesn't sound like the intended taste for sure.

I ran into that smell once and tossed the tin. I don't know what it was
but it wasn't pleasant.

I had exactly the same reaction, Johnny. Just dumped the entire tin in
a jar, left in cellar, top off....for 10 days. Rotten smell
disappared, a decent smoke.

OT: See a few of the7/8 posts finally showing up....around 24hrs late.

After smoking it, did you see beautiful visions? Did it cure any
infections? You might have stumbled onto some kind of psychedelic
antibiotic. If you have found profound TRUTH please inform us.

Well Piper,
If I open a tin or pouch of pipe tobacco and it does not smell like I
would love to eat the stuff, then I sure as hell don't smoke it. Just
my way. :)

Just a suggestion -- If you're going to toss the tin, why not mail it
back to C&D and ask them if it "really is" Black Frigate. Any
discovered problem might be benificial to them. (They, being the
wonderful folks that they are, may send back another tin.)
