"The preventive function of government, however, is far more liable to be abused, to the prejudice of liberty, than the punitory function; for there is hardly any part of the legitimate freedom of action of a human being which would not admit of being represented, and fairly too, as increasing the facilities for some form or other of delinquency."
J S Mill

Republican - Democrat, what's the difference idiot? You're a self-
styled armchair liberal and you are about as uptight and sphincter-
locked as most neurotic nut-cases running around loose. Don't put the
political spin on it, fruitcake, you end up with egg (or twinkie) on
your face. And if anyone should understand, by now, about not being
taken seriously, it should be you. It's most interesting is that you
are guilty, in one way or the other, of those things that you accuse
others. For someone so stupid, you are a bit too judgmental. Silly
clown

Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign
masters: pain and pleasure. It is for them alone to point out what
we ought to do, as well as to determine what we shall do. On the
one hand the standard of right and wrong, on the other the chain
of cause and effect, are fastened to that throne.

- Jeremy Bentham, "Principles of Morals and Legislation"
