The UK ban one year on, the Colorado ban two years on.

The UK ban one year on, the Colorado ban two years on.

Well, here it is two years after the Colorado smoking ban
took effect and there is nothing in the news about the anniversary.

There's the move of local hospitals going smokefree on their
grounds but no mention of the statewide ban.

And the move to get rid of the smoking lounges at the airport.

And the, humorous, suggestion marijuana be allowed in those lounges.

But no one publicly marked the anniversary.

Looks like everyone (and that include smokers) have gotten used to it.

There was talk about a referendum to repeal the ban 2 years ago but
it doesn't look like the required signatures were collected.

There's the ongoing attempt in Colorado Springs to challenge
the ban in the courts. The ruling was supposed to be ready this week.

Robert mentioned the 55-mph speed limit lasted 22 years.
(Will it come back? Robert said it was put in place for
safety, but it was to conserve fuel the last time the price
of gas went sky high).

If that's any guide, 2 years is too soon and 22 years off
is 2028. So it looks like smokers will just have to endure
the inconvenience while nonsmokers enjoy smokefree air
in restaurants and bars.

Robert is looking for evidence the pendulum is swinging back.
Don't look west. Our ban was strengthened by adding casinos.

Nope, no evidence of a rollback.

Looks like nonsmokers like the law and smokers are willing
to put up with it.

Actually, there has been quite a bit in the news. Casino revenues are
down, many bars have closed, etc....

Yes, there is - you don't live here and you don't read the local news
apparently.

That's not even a complete sentence. And why would anyone care? It's
not like anyone is forcing anyone into the "smoking lounges" at DIA.

I see nothing humorous about it. Marijuana should be legalized.

I did. We routinely violate the smoking ban where I work in Colorado.
It's good to have a CEO of one of the largest multi-national
corporations in the world who smokes.

We adapt - too bad non-smokers couldn't.

The only petitions I've seen were from liars trying to unionize the
police force here - did I mention they were liars? If I were gullible I
would have signed their petition. Fortunately I was unwilling to sign
something without researching it. Perhaps smokers are just too honest.

But wait - you said there was no opposition or challenges. Now you
bring one up.

Are you being dishonest? (Of course you are).

Oddly enough, you already could enjoy "smokefree air" in restaurants and
bars - you simply refused to do so.

And those casinos who declared themselves cigar bars? You lose again.

Looks like casinos who didn't declare themselves smoke-filled areas are
going out of business in droves.
