=> VT Bans Internet Cig Sales ! <= tax, restrict, humiliate

July 1, 2008

New law banning Internet cigarette sales starts today

MONTPELIER -- Vermont's new ban on the sale of Internet sales of cigarettes
and other tobacco products goes into effect today.

It will now be illegal for cigarettes, roll-your-own tobacco, little cigars
or snuff to be ordered or purchased by telephone, mail order or through the
Internet and shipped to anyone in Vermont other than a licensed wholesale or
retail dealer or distributor, said Vermont Attorney General William Sorrell.

Stores currently check photo identification to prevent illegal sales of
tobacco products, but many Internet sellers have inadequate or no systems
for verifying the buyer's age, Sorrell said.

Oh, crap. That means Vermont nicotine addicts will have to
pay the $1.99 per pack tax.

Nice idea, but it is unenforceable.

It's enforced in other states.

The state simply runs a sting with a minor, gets a court order
for the outfit's records, then sends a bill to those on the list.

Yes, it's evil, but money is money.

The Peoples Republic of China has a huge staff building a cybernetic wall around the
country -- blocking ideas the government dislikes. Perhaps Vermont could outsource the job
to China, or at least get ideas from them.

How fitting to discuss erosion of liberty on the Fourth of July. I was planning to watch a
parade and wave a flag. Should I cancel? Is freedom almost extinct, thanks to antismokers?

In the old west, at least according to legend, you had the freedom to
provoke a fistfight with someone and suffer little consequences unless your
victim turned out to be a better fist fighter than you. Do you also bemoan
the loss of that freedom? (And, by the way, when do you see the pendulum
swinging back on that one?) How free would you feel if you were the guy who
always got beat up? Thats how non smokers feel. (felt) Get used to it,
you're not the bully any more. We are celebrating new freedoms all the time.
Life is good.

Now you're the bully.

Limiting others' liberty isn't called freedom, it's called duress.

Increasing our liberty is called "greater liberty", asswipe. Life is
good.

Strange. You are no longer able to beat me up so that makes me the bully?
You certainly have a low threshold of being picked on, don't you?

Your freeedom to swing your fist has always ended at my nose. Your freedom
hasn't been limited only clarified. Nobody is preventing you from doing
anything you want to do, all that has changed is it is now better defined
WHERE you can do it.

Antismoking is a large industry whose sole purpose is picking on smokers. Members are
Action on Smoking and Health, Tobacco-Free Kids, Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights
Foundation, The Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education at UCSF.

Antismokers' objective is reducing WHERE to zero.

A little paranoid, are we?

Once again we see a person become a cigarette.

What is it about this drug that cause such hallucination?
