It all comes back around.

It all comes back around.

I teach lessons in a little local shop.

A few years ago I mentioned to the owner that I was looking for a
small Marshall combo (I had a DSL 201 in mind), and he let me know
when a JCM-800 arrived. I traded him my old '68 Twin Reverb for it,
and have been pleased with the arrangement ever since.

See, the Twin (which I'd had since '95 or so) had served me well, but
at some point the speakers had to be replaced. I admit that this is
petty, but I never liked seeing the Celestion speakers peering out
from behind it where the cool blue Fender speakers used to be. I used
it on stage once after the new speakers were installed, and while it
sounded OK, it didn't THRILL me. So the trade, when it came my way,
seemed prudent.

Some of you already know what I failed to consider, that those
speakers needed to be broken in a bit. In the couple of months that
followed, I got to see my Twin on the retail floor several days a
week. When a new cool guitar would come in, I would try it out through
the Twin I knew so well. Sure enough, it sounded MUCH better then,
than when I had used it (briefly) on stage. Well, there was a local
guy making payments on it. Eventually he paid it off, and took it
home.

I've been missing that old monster ever since.

So you can imagine my surprise, when after my first lesson this
afternoon, I walked out of the studio to see that Twin on the retail
floor again. The guy who had bought it is strapped for cash, and is
selling it on consignment. Apparently he didn't play through it much.

I think I might try to bring it back home.

Good deal! I guess that's why I'm such a pack rat. If I ever did let
anything go, I'd be missing it a couple of months later. Consequently, I
*never* let anything go!

Amen to that brother. My wife loves the extra space my new guitars and
amps take up ;-)

That's cool. I've sold everything over the years, but I often wonder
where some of my old gear is now. I'd love to find some of 'em, or at
least see them in action somewhere...that would be cool.

Re: It all comes back around.

The old stuff was just that, and I pretty much got rid of it because
my time with it was over, or it was no longer worth owning for me.

So I run into some of that stuff today and you know what my reaction
is when I play it, guitar or amp?

"eh".

I knew there was a reason why I got rid of it, and keeping it so I
could eBay it in 25 years was not what we thought about, I still
don't think like that.

But I'm glad you found your amp again and may get to use it all over
again, that would be kewl. I still lust for that 66 Firebird but man,
each one I play is pretty much just the same as the one I got rid of,
and they ain't worth the couple grand they could get for them now.

Well, if you do, never let her go. Love the Second Time Around is a
beautiful thing.

I guess my purchases were more spur of the moment. Thus, I didn't
have aingst selling/trading certain amps. Until I got my '76 Deluxe
'verb last year. I have several other stronger / more expensive amps,
but, the DR is the one getting all the live play. Something about its
sound - especially with my Telecaster - that just gets me in the mood
to play better.
