Vinyl Find

Anyone know anything about collectible LP albums?
I unearthed an original 3 disc album of Woodstock
that looks like it's hardly been played. The vinyl
is in near-perfect condition for being what, 38 years old?
I know it prolly aint worth shit but just thought I'd toss
this out to the general public. Maybe I shud snap some pics
and slap it on Ebay and see what it'll fetch?

I think there is a collectors market for CERTAIN PRESSINGS of CERTAIN
LPS, as some of them are though to have been mastered better than
others. This particular album was sold in mega-units and I used to see
lots of them in used records stores, so if it's valuable it wouldn't be
because it's rare.

Desirability or nostalgia factor on the part of the collector plays a
part too, though. I had a guy try to talk me out of all of my
collection of Art of Noise on vinyl once - particularly the first
one...the guy really wanted that one bad...but so did I.

What impressed me was the near perfect quality of the discs themselves.
I guess the only way to judge their worth would be to do a little more
digging which I haven't.

Re: Vinyl Find

I have a buddy that has ton's of vinyl going back many years (he's 84 years
old and used to own a record store). We did an antique shop run and nobody
really wants them. As Nil mentioned you can find people who will pay for
something in particular but over all vinyl is not worth much. But then
again, if you hold onto it long enough....

There's a Blue Book for records. Don't know what it's called or how to get one,
but it's out there, because vintage record store owners will look over your
item, look in the book and offer you about 1/10 of whatever it says.

back in the olden days, it was always like that, selling vinyl to 2nd hand
record shops, parting with albums, lucky to get $4 a record. i'm sure
someone stole my vinyl of 'the song remains the same', 'cause i never would
have sold it.

Why not slap it on EBay? Won't cost you much and you never know what
you'll get.

If it had the original shrinkwrap maybe a few extra bucks, but as
others have said Woodstock sold well, there are many copies out there,
vinyl is a very small market, etc. You need to listen to it! There are
so many amazing tracks, you've got the cover pics in the 12 inch
format, and the atmosphere captured between songs. A one-of-a-kind
event in history. You can't be nostalgic for sometihng that can never
happen again.

BTW, I was listening to Sly & the Family Stone's performance and CSNY
doing Sea of Madness just the other day. Good stuff.

Yeah, I've got that one and also the Woodstock 2 LP. Unfortunately,
mine are "reliced"...like all my other LPs. Too bad; well, I still
enjoy listening to them!

The short answer: Check here-

In Marin County, in a town by the name of Mill Valley, lives
Carlos Santana, Neil Schoen, Van Morrison and many other greats.

There, you'll find the killer of all vinyl record resellers. It's
just up the street from the bookstore.

If I didn't need the cash now I'd put it back in the closet for
another 10 or 20 years & sell it or maybe trade it for a geetar.
