Found my amp!!

Found my amp!!

After owning many amps and playing countless others I found the sound I've
been seeking in the most unlikely amp. A Peavey Valveking. Yep, you heard
me right. The Chinese made valveking has the sound I've had in my head for
so long.

As some of you know I had a Fender SCXD crap out on me so I picked up a Epi
Jr. half stack to fill the void while looking at new amps. It's a damned
fine amp for the price as well, but still has the compressed tweed sound
when pushed hard which is good for some stuff, but not exactly the sound I
wanted. I don't have an unlimited budget, but I can afford a decent amp, so
while price is important I would pay more for the right amp. BTW, I also
like the SCXD much better than the Epi.

Anyhow, I'm checking out some amps at GC and a guy I've known for some times
recommends I check out the valveking. He owns some seriously good
equipment, guitars and amps and can afford pretty much what he wants. He's
single. :o) I was surprised by the recommendation and let it go in one ear
and out the other. He leaves and later another friend walks in and I tell
him about the recommendation. He says yeah, he's crazy about that amp. He
said that he also likes it very much and that I should take the
recommendation seriously and give it a try.

A hour later I finally pull myself away from this little amp. I wanted to
grab it on the spot so bad, but they only had the floor model and if I have
to pay full price I want it new in the box, so to make a long story short I
went straight home and put one on order.

This amp is rarely mentioned or recommended, but I think it sounds awesome.

If anyone is in the market I would highly recommend you check this little
monster out. I don't know how reliable it's going to be, but I'm hoping for
the best.

Just thought I share an experience.

I love the Valvekings. I currently do not have one but have the Peavey
Triple XXX Super 40 and it rips. I've been a Peavey guy most of my playing
life and always will be despite what some booteek snobs say about Peavey.

I was actually looking at one last week. Never played it tho. Specs
looked OK. Sales droid reckoned it was akin to a Fender clean sound.
What are your thoughts on that? I was looking at the 50watt 1x12. My SS
2x12 is a heave SOB.

While the wifes away I might try one out;-)

Cheers

I went looking for tube amps last week and played three amps. A 60W
valveking, used - a new Fender superchamp 15W, and the V32 head with
the matching cab. Out of the three I liked the Valveking best,
especially the way it carried the low strings, clean and warm. The
sales kid thought I was about power and volume, maybe cause he is;)
but he told me it was only cause the Fender (his fav) was only 15
watts and plugged it into a huge marshall stack, I still liked the
valve king better for what I do.

I was considering it as a way of playing clean over drums. The Class A/B
blend thing looked pretty cool too, as a way of getting decent tube
overdrive. But is it more oriented towards clean or dirty playing?

Well it's a high gain amp but I think the cleans are very good with a little
eq'ing and set to class A. I had one for a while and wish I still had it.
I'd like to get the 2x12 version but man is it heavy!

The guy said it was 60 but either way, it is still too much for me to
play in my house. I wish I liked the sound of the Fender Superchanp,
size and power wise, it was perfect.. My own search continues. Still
have a 210Watt peavy I know I will never use..

Yep, but even thought it was high gain the one I was playing was really
quiet. High gain amp normally have some pretty bad hiss, but not this guy.

That's another thing I'm looking for;-)

Mark, that's the great thing about it, both are really good with the
overdrive being my favorite. That little dial on the back totally changes
the characteristics of the amp and you can dial in just about any sound your
looking for at any level. BTW, the reverb was actually very good too. I've
read that it's even better with a better speakers, but it nailed the tone I
was after so I don't plan to mess with it at all.

I love my 2-12 Valveking. It nails the clean, and the distortion is
similar to a Fender tweed cranked. I tweak the blend to mostly class
A, but the distortion drive is more like a Marshall tweaked the other
way. An Ibanez Tube Screamer to kick it up a notch gives me all the
drive I need for what I do, but each channel has a boost than can be
kicked in via the footswitch (doesn't change the harmonic quality
much, just a volume boost). Two issues I don't like with the amp: the
reverb is thin and spongy, and the channel switching (via footswitch)
isn't smooth--the signal is silenced briefly during the switch. Old
Peaveys never had these problems, so I was disappointed to find it
here. But, otherwise I'm happy with the amp. Give it a test run,
Mark!

The Marshall JCM2000 series have this same problem. Fortunately, I
never switch channels between songs.

Really? That sucks.
