Saw Van Halen last night

Family and I went to the long awaited/oft-postponed VH concert at the
RBC Arena in Raleigh NC last night. The show in a word: terrific.

Eddie looked and sounded great. Played practically flawless and
seemed to be having a great time. His son Wolfgang did a good job on
bass and vocals too. Eddie played a cream colored Wolfgang most of the
evening in front of a wall of EVH 5150 stacks.

They played only old-school VH from the DLR albums (no surprise
there), with one notable exception when they played Crossroads, likely
a tribute to Eddies hero Clapton. "I'll Wait" kinda sapped the energy
from the crowd, but not for long. For my money, they could've left
that out of the set...and off the 1984 album for that matter.

The show from a 'physical' sense was of course a shadow of the old VH.
I've only seen videos of them in their heyday since I never had the
opportunity seeing them live before. There were no stage
power-slides, spread-eagle jumps from amps/drum risers, etc. Those
days are long behind them. Dave was still the master of ceremonies as
expected, although his initial Vegas-Elvis look was kinda dorky. The
guy is in remarkable condition though for someone his age. The
gigantic jumbotron screen above/behind the band was very cool.

Only slight disappointment was the absurd price for a t-shirt at
$35-$40, with only a couple people helping sell them to big crowds. So
the 5 of us came home VH-shirtless. Oh well. The RBC Center is very
fan-friendly, great parking, and no traffic jams of any sort in or
out. The acoustics aren't the greatest, but I've certainly heard a
lot worse arenas. Overall the arena was a very pleasant surprise.

If you have the chance, I'd highly recommend seeing VH. I was
concerned about being disappointed seeing the guy who inspired me to
play guitar 30 years ago being a 'jurassic rocker' shell of himself,
but that wasn't the case AT all!!

Cool. Bet that was worth it!

re; 'jurassic rocker' COIN that one!

Re; Stones, and half the guys from that era who still have the chops but
are downright embarassing to look at...

THAT's what I admire about someone like Peter Frampton. :-) mvm

I'm 51. I am adamant about keeping physically fit. The bald w/ a
ponytail look cracks me up as much as the shaved head with a mustache
and goatee bit.

The Stones look like something william whittakre crapped out of a tent
pant leg.

The last time I saw the Stones was I think mid to late 80's maybe early 90's
at Foxborough stadium and Living Colour opened up for them. I thought the
Stones were horrible and vowed never to waste my cash on them again.

Very cool. I saw them back in October and I'm going to see them again
this Friday in Atlantic City. They were great several months ago and
I'm glad to hear they're back in form for the upcoming show.
