Well I have a Deluxe reverb and I can honestly
tell you that the pedal definitely doesn't sound
like a Deluxe reverb. But that in itself is alright
as long as a pedal can get you good sounds no matter
what it's intended to sound like.
The problem was this pedal just didn't have good sounds to it.
I was playing it through a Hot Rod Deluxe (which I'll admit is
not such a great sounding amp - at least any stock OEM unit)
and using a MIM Strat as the guitar. (I was obviously in a shop
rather than at home). I think it made the Hot Rod Deluxe
sound even worse which is a hard thing to do actually.
But who knows - maybe with a different guitar and a different
amp and a different playing style and a different day of the week
and perhaps different weather the pedal might sound good that day.
The only way to know is to try one out for yourself.
Just order from Musicians Friemd or Sam Ash or Zounds or
wherever and you have at least a month to trial it out
before deciding to return it or keep it.
I figure even if you can get just one great sound out of it
that you keep going back to - then it's a keeper.
Then again if you have never actually played through a Silverface
or Blackface Deluxe reverb (or even the current DR reissues being sold now)
then you might not realize how far off this pedal is from the actual amp.
If you can - go to a store that has Fender amps and play through the
Deluxe Reverb reissue amp (it is a nice sounding amp on its own and
way better sounding than the Hot Rod Deluxe).
And then after playing into the Deluxe Reverb reissue amp -
play through the pedal into some other amp. (or perhaps an amp close
to what you'll be playing with at home or in band)
You'll know the difference right away and can decide for yourself.
And make sure to take note of how much different (better actually)
the Fender DR amp's vibrato sounds from the amp than using the
pedals' modeling. But again - if you don't have an actual Fender DR
to compare it to then you might never know or appreciate the differences.
Like I said though - that pedal might fill a need for a few songs and
get the job done and then it's on to the next song in the playlist and
you can kick the pedal off. But if you are going to have vibrato as
an integral part of your sounds - then just get the Fender DR reissue
and be done with it. (or a nice used silverface is still very reasonable).
ok. that's my 2 cents.
