The Black Strat

It's a few months away from release, but this looks like it's going to be an
excellent book. My pre-order is in :)

Re: The Black Strat

BTW... Did you catch this part in the description?

"Written by Phil Taylor - David's personal guitar technician since 1974 - to
coincide with the release of the long awaited and much requested Fender
'David Gilmour Signature Strat': an instrument replicating the look, set-up,
sound and feel of David's famous black guitar as it is today."

Finally, a DG Signature Strat. It's about damned time!

I'm not impressed with the list of left-handed people playing
right-handed: they left off Janick Gers from Iron Maiden.

Knowing Gilmour it isn't going to be just a name. He's VERY fussy about
how his guitars are built and set up. Also I'd be pretty safe in saying
the Pink Floyd back catalogue would ensure he wouldn't care for the cash
either. Last I looked DSOTM was STILL in the top 100 albums.

The Fender signature guitar was supposed to be released last year. DG
will most likely have to be appeased before it is released (like Pulse).
The real question is, it going to be based on his Black Strat or his Red
57 reissues? I'm assuming the black one, which has had a VERY colourful
life. Like George Washington's axe. TBH I'd imagine DG will use the Sig
Strats himself too, he usually favours clones for touring. IIRC DG also
wanted the guitar to not be priced out of guitarists range (tho I doubt
that will include me;-).

As for the book, it was penned by his guitar tech, not DG.

Larry, its already available;

http :// www .theblackstrat,com /The Black Strat-home...html

Hmm, he's dropped the price too;-)

The wife's away for a few days, kids are at school, Strat is about to be
cranked;-) Shine on.

Got my amp back and have been playing *my* black strat all arvo. Cranked it
up to 3/4 master volume at half of the other vol. I give the neighbours a
fair go after sunset. After playing shorter scale humbucker guitars it is
nice to play a strat. The ac30 certainly doesn't lack any treble and the
harmonic tones out of it are very nice. No hum straight into the amp even
with the strat ! But will have to get a noise gate with the effects. haven't
tried the loop yet. might make a differences. The reverb is nice. celestion
blues are ordered and on their way !

Brown snakes and wallabies. You've talked me into it ! Bugger waiting on the
old man's demise, I'm gonna be getting it a happening now. And if it's
cheaper to do it all in NZ, might even immigrate! Tho, North qld is probably
a bit warmer.

Always a good place to be. Bar my main amp and lack of EMG's in Strat
#2, I'm about the same. I can pick any guitar up and bee happy in the
feel and sound. Tho that Muff is still on the cards.

NZ isn't exactly cheap for real estate. I always wanted a place I could
go fishing and hunting in peace and quiet. I could easily move up woop
woop. People used to piss me off, thought I'd be better off without
them. Married now, its a different world. Still like to go hunting in
peace tho.

You could check out Tony's neck of the woods. QLD isn't it?

I'm used to them now. They aren't all the same - mostly. Still a loner
tho. Got my wife (my best friend) my kids... all the rest doesn't matter
too much. Thankfully, I got my music back too. Thanks to my wife.

Too bad. I got a good one. Not too much nagging, and support when I need
it. And I thought I was a cynic;-) Life is what you make it, at least
that's what the people say.....

It was/is his best imo. First one off the drugs. "Willy and the hand

all great stuff.

One In Every Crowd was that one, and that's the one Better Make It
Through Today is off.

461 Ocean Boulevard, the next one, that's where them are from. I
remember watching a very dark stage as they one-at-a-time started off
Motherless Children, you can hear that lick right, and up to the top
and the lights came up on the the next one and there He slide-playin
was. Spectrum in Philly so loud couldn't hear most of that song them
people were so glad to see him. When yer 15 that stays with you
forever.

But anyway, couplea great records them were, followed by EC Was Here,
another overlooked lesson in white boy blues guitar playing that I
still listen to regularly.
