YT America

I never noticed how much Dan Peek looks like Jim Morrison (in his later
fat years). At least he does in this video.
This is one of my favorite America tunes. Tin Man

Were they always stoned when they wrote songs? That's the impression I
always got. Don't get me wrong, I think they wrote some GREAT music,
but the lyrics are kinda like listening to a homeless guy at the bus
station. At least "Tin Man" isn't as cringe-worthy as "Horse with No
Name" - "In the desert you can remember your name...'cause there ain't
no one for to give you no pain." Ouch.

Homeless guy at the bus station is a perfect analogy!
Wife #2 was an America fan, and I got to know a lot of the songs pretty
well, although my overall impression was and still is "ugh".

To me it comes across as faux hipness, like those guys never actually
came within 50 feet of a tab (and I'm not referring to musical notation
here!). Dewey Bunnell, who wrote and sang both of the songs you
mentioned, was by far the worst offender.

The only guy of the three I could really tolerate was Gerry Beckley, who
wrote "Sister Golden Hair", which was a half-decent song (nice slide
guitar!).

Not to mention "The heat was hot." Yes, indeed, the heat was indeed
hot.

...I'm in the desert...the heat's STILL hot.

My Harley-horse is nameless, too...

Re: YT America

Well, my point was not whether anyone liked America. But I guess I'm the
only one who sees the resemblance with Morrison.
