That's why I use Linux on all my computers. Windows is the most
commercially successful virus of all time.

There is a way to disable that bullshit, but I agree, Vista
is a joke. I stick with XP. Every time I tried to install
Vista, I re-installed XP the same day. Now, I just ignore Vista.

The computer I'm on right now is a dual-boot configuration. Half Win XP
Pro, half Linux Mint. Based on Ubuntu, but all the downloads are already
configured in the distro. (Java, Media players, etc.) It's a nice way to
get confortable with Linux. Still learning my way around it though...LOL!

Same here - sticking with XP - but wish I could get better with Ubuntu to
just kick the habit.. I have a Vista box at work, and it's just a real piece
of work... Have NOT figured out how to disable those questions! :)

That warning bullshit was my biggest bitch (then) with Vista, and I did
a net search, found some 'Vista Tweeking' site that told how to stop
it. It did for about a week, then it started up again. Tweeked it
again, and 2 weeks later, it's back. I returned the Vista Pro Package
I BOUGHT retail, and the store guy understood what I was bitching about.

Full refund.

Windows XP is not perfect, but at least I have control over it, and unlike
the many Mac machines I fix, said control info is available online...4 free.

Yeah - I won't go to Vista - ever... XP is my last MS OS... I'm with you!
:)

And, you got the 64-bit version? Or was that the OP?

You've paid for online information on MacOS previously? Sounds like a
PEBKAC issue right there...

Andy.

I wouldn't put Vista on an "old" machine. When I build my new
machine, I'll put Vista on & I'll bet that it will be OK.

Why sacrifice 30% of your performance of that new machine? Put XP on it
and it's that much faster. Vista is a pig. A pretty pig, but a pig
nonetheless.

When I was looking for a computer to run Sonar for recordings, I did a
little digging and found several people who reported problems using
Sonar on a Vista-based system. So I ordered the computer with XP.

This computer (separate) which I use for work and for accessing the net,
runs Win2K and will be running it for the foreseeable future.

That doesn't surprise me at all. You definitely want to make sure any
software you buy is Vista compatible.

MS has decided not to stop selling XP now (they were going to stop in
June of 2008).
