Carvin...good or bad?

I say good. Actually, I say excellent now that they have the V220 and
Ultra V back in the arsenal. I'd like to see them make guitars out of
stainless steel.

Berry berry good. I have one, have owned many. However, I don't want a
stainless steel guitar. I prefer wood. Graphites OK too, but I can't
afford a real 80's GL.

Excellent quality, great pricing for US made. I have owned one and
would certainly again.

Kudos from me. I own a lot of Carvin gear and have yet to be disappointed.

I own three Carvin amps - two V3 heads and an XV-112. And an
80's-vintage LB-70 bass. Very satisfied all the way round.

Forgot to add, I also own a PB100 bass (15" driver) combo. I've used
it in a 300-seat, two-level church sanctuary and I've never had to
turn it up past 10 o'clock. It's fat and LOUD.

We use a Carvin 1200W/12 channel/quad amp powered mixer that kicks
butt. I also bought a prewired pickguard with 2 AP11 SC's and one
twin-rail humbucker that I'm happy with.

...well, dang...now that you mention it, I also have a Carvin Pro Bass
15 pre-amp that I used to use for direct recording. Haven't fired it up
in years, but I still have it.

My bass player has a comparable Peavey bass combo that sounds boxy &
tinny by comparison...I put him through the PA and let him use a
dedicated 12" monitor PA speaker instead.

Carvin = quality. Their prices have started to climb in the last
year, though.

Just got their new catalog, it looks like they've actually dropped the
prices by a good $150 on their Cobalt line of acoustic guitars. I
wonder why....weren't selling?

If they dropped the prices that much, then it has to be that they
weren't selling. I hear tell that those Cobalt acoustics are made in
Asia. I think Carvin should stick to their U.S. Electrics and Basses.
Their instruments being made in America was definitely a strong
selling-point for Carvin since the beginning. I believe two things
have kept Carvin in the game: Quality, Value, and U.S. made products.
they should stick with the formula.

Re: Carvin...good or bad?

Yes, the Cobalt line is the only non-US made guitars in their lineup. They
are, however, finish-prep, inspected and set up in San Diego prior to
shipment to the customer.

Everyone has a lower-end lineup. No reason Carvin shouldn't as well. The
Cobalts are pretty nice, actually.

Re: Carvin...good or bad?

I've noticed that too, but the value is still far above the 'other' guys.
Fender is really the only one that's held on pricing the last couple of
years.

I have NOT been impressed by Carvin gear. For the price they ask, the
sound is lacking. Have played with guys who swear by it, and use their
products for live sound enforcement. Honestly, the products sound weak
distort easily, and don't compare to my old Peavey stuff from the late
70s. Then, when I look up prices for the gear, I need some kind of
reality check

Re: Carvin...good or bad?

I have the Carvin BelAire 212. It is one big, heavy ass amp but it sounds
great and has nice features, and you can't beat the price ($599 when I
purchased, but it's been raised to $619).

I've had two. The first had two Carvin Vintage 12's. The one I have now
has two Celestion Vintage 12's). I think they call them Vintage 30's ?

I will say I did like the Carvin Vintage 12's better. I think they had a
bit better bottom end. In fact, Carvin has gone back to their VL12's in the
current versions.

It's a looker too, even though the tweed is simulated.
