Guitar Lesson: Hybrid Picking # 1

Ok here I am going outside my comfort zone. I've been listening to a
bit of Country Shredders lately, Brad Paisley, Danny Gatten etc... I
find the playing very different from the typical shredder licks but
its still very challenging. So here is an intro to hybrid picking
lick, which of course is a big part of this type of guitar playing.
Typically its the pick is held normally, and you use the extra fingers
on the right hand to pluck additional strings. Anyway, watch the video
to see what I'm talking about.

This would be considered an intro to Hybrid picking as its just
something I'm learning to do

OK, now try it without your Gonzo-Gane amp/pedalboard. Try a Tele and a Deluxe
Reverb set on 3. Betcha can't, huh?

not if you've been playing alex lifeson riffs since 1980, no.

your right hand doesn't seem to do much impressive. it's the hammer on's and
pull offs making most of the sound.

That's what I mean. The dude wants to "country shred" (ugh) he's gotta learn to
pick at least 90% of the notes. On a clean amp. And like he said, he probably
won't.

any man playing country without a strat or tele clean just ain't cutting the
mustard. jeepers he dont know an A major pent from an A minor pent no how.
and i don't see no 4th bend up to 5th and then the 7th picked neither even
if it is a minor he's a pickin' ;-)

Yes it is. Yee-haw. I'm excited. Try and hold me dow--w-wn-n- (YAWN)....

Hey, the "shredding" lessons are OK, I can learn something as I'm an old fart
and long ago realized that shred was just a synonym for jacking off and that 98%
of shredders couldn't strum 3 chords if their lives depended on it. That's
strumming CHORDS as in "utilizing at least 4 or 5 strings simultaneously with
thirds included, using an up-&-down sweeping motion of the right hand with
downbeat bass notes & transitional runs thrown in." You know, guitar playing.

I'm not sure what to think about these lessons you're posting up, but
that's a cool looking Ibanez. I like the yellow Strat you have also.

I think the Strat is an Yngwie Malmsteen signature Strat. At least,
that's my guess after looking at the finish and the scalloped fret
board.

Just trying to share some ideas, which I thought was the point of the

Nothing wrong with that man, -just understand, it's not a "group".
There's little cohesive about it and cowardice runs rampant re;
cheap shots from boyginaz who need a back hand. Do your thing and
enjoy yourself!

It's all right man, I wasn't trying to attack you. And I did like
your guitars. It looks like you're actually trying to improve
yourself technically. This alone is enough to draw the ire of some
people around here. The guitar is the only instrument I know of where
a large group of its players are against becoming technically
proficient at playing it.
