Yeah, I agree. I wouldn't buy it just out of principle but I'd still be
interested to check the quality.

I'd like to take a fret scale rule and see how accurate the frets are
installed. Lots of times on knock-offs and on a couple of my MIM Strats
the frets aren't installed well enough to get consistent intonation across
the board. I just checked a MIM Strat of mine today and after the 6th fret
they are off a few thousands towards the bridge. But the guitar plays so
well and the style of music I play isn't interfered with enough to mill
the neck and put my own fretboard/frets in.
