DTV HDTV useful links Be ready, - don't miss a single day of media brainwash

The scoop from the horses mouth about the impending
switch of our TV airwaves to the new DTV format that will
render our existing TV's disfunctional.

It won't render them dysfunctional; you just need a converter box if
your set doesn't have a suitable input. Digital television is much
better quality than analogue - even with NTSC ('Not The Same Colour').

I don't see what the HDTV in the subject line has to do with it.

Actually, that's "Never Twice (the) Same Colour." ;-)

If you're on a cable system, you don't need a convertor. But you're missing out
if you keep your analog sets.

I went HD and got rid of my regular TV's. I don't watch a lot of TV, and I am
now able to get over the air HD broadcasts for the local stations where analog
was snowy at best. Heck, for what I'm not paying in cable fees will pay for the
sets in no time! For movies, I have a "through the mail" DVD thing. Even
though my main DVD player "up converts" and uses HDMI, I'm wanting a Blu-ray.

The difference in quality is amazing. I haven't even seen the full potential
(1080p), since I don't yet have a blu-ray player. But network shows (most
running 1080i) on HD with 5.1 are killer! Same with PBS Soundstage, Austin City
Limits and the like. Live sports is also a huge improvement. You don't lose
the golf ball in the screen, you can see sweat running down player's faces...
MOST shows that I watch are in HD. For free, over the air.

Don't buy TVs any more... buy monitors, or projectors (better!). I just got
a
Gateway monitor with more inputs than G*d (HDMI, RGB, composite, DVI,
S-vid, some I forget!). 1920x1280, that's bigger than HD (1920x1024).

...

I already had the camera (Canon HG-10)... ridiculous, when I set it for
highest res (15Mbits/sec!) my computer can't play the resulting videos
*at all*... they just go crazy after a few seconds. Time for a new MB!
I wonder if I can get a quad-core that will fit in my mini-ATX case,
with 8xAGP... shopping is fun.

AGP is obsolete. You want PCI Epxress x16.

If you get a new motherboard, you might as well get a bigger case. Mini
ATX cases aren't that great for ventilation.

Well, I've already got the video card... and while I'm
buying, I should get *two* of the PCIE cards, matching!

Oh, they're great if you leave the cover off! I kinda
like having a c. 2001 Compaq sleeper machine case...
but you're right. Hell, I should put in a server rack.
